This is a scenic area. Make sure you check the tide time or you will not be able to walk along the shore.

This refuge has great hiking trails on the beach and into salt ponds and pine forests. During the swimming season this would be a nice place to swim.

There are several views overlooking the water with seating that is perfect to take in nature. We visited in the Fall but I'm sure anytime of year would be enjoyable. A short walk down some stairs takes you to the beach. We found an area near the bird feeders nice a quite to enjoy the serene surroundings.

The Monomoy Wildlife Refuge is a great place to view the shifting sands and observe all the natural life on this part of Cape Cod. If you get there either at 0600 or 1600 you can watch the staff launch a weather balloon. Low tide is the bedtime to do the entire walk which is less than a mile and... More

My husband and I walked there from where we were staying. It was about 1 1/4 miles one way but you can also drive there. We took the stairs down to the beach and walked along the beach. We were there in early afternoon and unfortunately saw only one seal poking his head out of the water. Regardless, it was... More

It was really a nice place, but we had a hard time finding it. We have seen no signs on the road to go there, google maps on the cellphone and our gps could not even find the place. And once we got there, we thought we were at the wrong place because of the signs: "private proporties". The trails... More

This refuge is off of a private road. Don't be discouraged by signs and a gate. The entrance to the refuge is shortly after the "Private Roads" sign. There is a modest visitors center, but the garden for the bird feeders was swarming with chickadees, jays, doves, etc. We spent some time just relaxing and watching the birds. The view of... More

Well worth the time and effort. You can in theory hike there but, several boat options are available. Our trip operator was knowledgeable about the history and geography of the area as well as the abundant wildlife. We saw hundreds of seals in action.

Beautiful trails and walks along a stunning beach. Go to the visitor's center first to get a trail map and a thorough summary from knowledgeable people.

A little visited nature preserve in busy Chatham. Worth finding past the Coast Guard Lighthouse. Free parking at the nature center. But, you have to time the visit properly because of the tides. With high tide you will get wet to get to the beach. Aside from the tide issue, an easy walk to and around Morris Island.. A number... More
