A little cafe and a gorgeous little park. We enjoyed a short walk with our little girl. Everyone was very friendly. Very well kept and clean.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 6 April 2024
- Moira G5 contributionsPerfect few hoursVery enjoyable walk around the park. Our pooch loved the river. Surprising that we didn't hear any birds in the way round though. Other than that it was brilliant and we finished off at the cafe with lovely toasted sandwiches and a perfect cuppa! Definitely recommended for a leisurely few hours.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 21 August 2024

Alyn Waters is a lovely country park situated in Wrexham. The entrance is very obvious (make sure you start at the main car park with gates because there are a few carparks on different sides) Parking can be a problem but there is plenty of space to park either side of the road that leads down to the small car park. There is a lovely picnic area with an outdoor gym and children’s park. If you are going with a group and plan to sit and chill I’d recommend taking some camping chairs because the benches only sit 4 and are spaced out far from each other.
The park itself is lovely. There are three walks (green, yellow, orange) each different lengths and difficulties. I would suggest following the orange path that circuits the whole park and passes the wide but shallow river Alyn (perfect for a paddle), it probably takes almost an hour at a leisurely pace. However be warned that half way around this route you will face a steep section which may be a challenge for wheelchairs and buggies (if this isn’t something you fancy perhaps take the green route) - Each path is very good terrain (a mixture of concrete, wood & hardened dirt). Along the route you will encounter numerous metal sculptures of animal which are perfect for children.
The play park is very large and has slides, swings, big swings, climbing frame, sand pits etc with grass and benches scattered throughout. Right next door there is an outdoor gym which has plenty of pull up bars, sit up platforms etc...
It’s a lovely park and I would highly recommended for all ages and abilities.

We come here all the time and it really is the most wonderful place to go all year round, this time as spring is on its way!
The caffi is absolutely outstanding with amazing staff and incredible well priced food for all types of dietary requirements including home made cakes and snacks.
I would suggest it is under priced as the portions and staff are so awesome you could charge a little more and still have very happy customers!
The car park is £1 all day, as of March 2020, and they do offer a mobile way of paying if you have no cash - but clearly as with all council run car parks if you don't pay, it's at your own risk.
There are two play parks for those who are under 5/6 and those a little older which are really good fun and stimulate the mind.
The obvious missing bit I haven't mentioned here is the massive outdoor space which kids, adults and animals alike can enjoy and go mad in.
We'll be back as soon as we can. Much love, ZEN family.

Bacon undercooked and greasy toast soggy couldn’t eat anything. Flat white coffee was undrinkable changed for black coffee they had the cheek to charge me forever it. They then forgot to bring it. I did not feel I could approach staff as the first timer I did I was stared at. Take a picnic and use the park

This is a lovely park and can be enjoyed by those with poor mobility. There are a number of paved routes through the park for wheel chairs or adapted cycles.
Word of warning - be quick to pay for your parking as I know people that have been booked within minutes of arrival and even one that was booked whilst in the process of getting a parking fee paid.
There used to be free parking and footfall has dropped significantly since this ended. :(

Travelled to Alun Waters after a gap of 18 months since my last walk there. Found that I was only able to pay via an app or with a card. Luckily I am a mobile phone owner and I had a debit card with me, believe it or not there are some people who do not posess either. Unable to download the app I attempted to pay by card and after typing into my phone for what seemed like an hour ... I lost contact. I started the process again this time losing contact after 2 minutes. Gave up and left. Never did enjoy the delights of Alun Waters again. Why was it so dofficult ??
Going to have another go at downloading the parking app at home ... see where we go from there.

Absolutely terrible visit to cafe yesterday.
Not sure what was happening, but think they need to change the filters or get a better ventilation system in place, as between placing order and it arriving the place started to smell of grease and smoke. I had to leave, dragged out by the dog who is petrified of smoke.
But Thought no problem as can go outside as nice day, but when took order out, both coffees were terrible. My husbands black americano had obviously had a splash of milk put in, probably before someone remembered it was meant to be black, and rather than make a fresh one, put the lid on and gave it us anyway. My flat white had a funny black ring around the top of the cup.
The piece of bara brith was the end piece, which besides being rock hard and slightly burnt was stale. All were thrown away.
I know we could have complained, but we had had to wait a long while in the first place for the order, and then had to walk over to the picnic tables outside, so by then we had just had enough, and went home.
We have been before, and even then it was average, but doubt we will bother again.

Having seen this venue advertised in a regional magazine we made a special trip, from our home in Cheshire, to visit it as we had not been before. When we arrived we found that all the parking meters ( £1 fee) were out of order and the onlw way we could pay was by mobile phone. Unfortunately we had left ours at home. I went into the adjacent office and the lovely staff ( hence 1 star rating) said that there was nothing that they could do and they could not accept my payment. They sggested that we took a chance, took a photo of the machine ( with what?) and contested any fine received. As if I was going to get involved in all that hassle for £1. Locals advised me not to park without paying. A little bit of common sense from somebody in authority, eg suspending payment whilst the machine was out of action our allowing payment in the office would have been an easy solution. But no, Wrexham Council wanted their pound of flesh. What a way to treat visitors.

What once used to be a lovely place to walk around and let the kids run around is no longer. There is so much dog crap around it's unreal. A real shame its now a dogs only park owners have no respect for the other people around.

Amazing place to walk, forget about the world and enjoy time with my dog. There are many paths and trails and although very popular you can sometimes not see anyone for a while which I personally love as then it’s just time for me and my doggy.
He loves it too, there are wide open spaces, water, forest, lots to sniff, sticks to find and plenty of places for mummy to play hide and seek with him.
My one bug bear is the parking. There is plenty of it, I just totally disagree with paying to park there. I believe it’s £1 no matter the length of time but this has stopped me visiting now. I just feel that it’s a park, it’s exercise, it’s great to get out and about and help with your health and mental wellbeing. Why would you basically tax someone for wanting to do the right thing getting exercise and fresh air? It’s not feasible for me to walk there and it’s not encouraging, it was a very bad decision by Wrexham Council as when I drive by I can clearly see a lot less cars there indicating less usage of the park itself which is a huge shame as it truly was our favourite place to walk.
In a world where obesity and health matters, please don’t penalise those trying to do better or maintain a healthy lifestyle. That said it is a great place and no complaints about the park itself, just the parking charges.
As a side note potentially there is also a gypsy site being located across the road at which point I would have no longer used the park anyway for safety reasons of my dog, myself and my car as nothing is safe in that type of environment. Sort it all out Wrexham Council, it’s a beautiful place but you are restricting the use of it.

Which walking route is the easiest or flattest?
Written 9 October 2020
Probably the green route. All three routes are pretty easy and on good terrain however the green doesn’t have a hill and is the shortest.
Written 15 October 2020
Do you mean a bush in the park ? Yes, yes the bushes are open.
Written 23 July 2020
No not all . Drive in main entrance to cafe where there is disabled parking. There are signs(maps) giving you best route for wheel chairs really hope this helps you, I must admit I love the walks there

Written 24 January 2015
Hi no you can't cross the river as its a horse statuary on the other side, and there are only toilets by the visitor centre, the golf course has been knocked down now,
