Inside this unique structure you first get an interesting video relating the local mines to minerals created by supernovas - wow! And then you get to peek at the real objects in the sky, as close as the moon, as far as other galaxies, and much in between. Our astronomer guide was superb: she kept the action rolling for two hours as we took turns at the eyepieces. Only two downsides keep me from rating as Excellent. (1) there was no office in, or transport easily available from, Andacollo (just a few km away), and (2) it was crowded inside the dome, a little claustrophobic. But regardless, this is a must see.

I was picked up from my hostel by a friendly driver, after a long drive to other pick ups and up to the observatory, was greeted by the friendly staff. They went out of their way to give me an English experience, it was greatly appreciated. Beautiful presentation under the Milky Way, and sensational views of Jupiter and its moons through the observatories telescope. A must do!

Overall the experience was a good one. The travel agent we used told us last minute that the English tour was unavailable so although we speak some Spanish a lot of it was lost on us. Very friendly guides and a beatiful sky. The one big thing to know is that if you do the 9pm tour and are staying in La Serena you will not get back until 3 am... Which was a sharpie se for us and a striges since we had been getting up early and adventuring the days prior.
