About
Small waves, low dunes and lots of seashells make this narrow, two-mile stretch of public beach popular with families. The beach runs between Oak Bluffs and Edgartown, and is called "Bend-in-the-Road Beach" on the Edgartown side.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The beach was absolutely wonderful. The wind and temperature was perfect, the water blue, and the fun was a plenty! My son and his friend had a ball: boogie boards, fi s, goggles, sand castles...they just had a marvelous time. The water was nice, too. We got there in the late afternoon and it was ple ty of parking and space so that we weren't on top of the next family! Looking forward to returning

I love the beach but I do not like big waves. We walked here from Island Inn and had the best, quiet beach day just relaxing and swimming

Had to come see this beach since it was where a main part of the 1975 movie Jaws was filmed. The beach and area was very clean and the water was clear. Of course, it was off season and it wasn’t crowded yet, but it was great to have it to myself as I’ve heard that it is packed with people in season. If you’re a fan of Jaws, I suggest stopping here and checking it out. You can say you swam in the same water where Alex Kintner was eaten :)

Beautiful location for sunsets and sun rises. Famous for its appearance in JAWS. A must see when visiting Edgartown and MV! Highly recommended.

Great beach to go paddle boarding. We did it with island spirit kayak at night and it was amazing. There was so many animals to see under the paddle board at night

About dogs on Martha’s Vineyard Beaches:
This is a wonderful family friendly beach. Parking is on the ocean side and the bike path is on the pond side. Beautiful views no matter where you look!
Sengekontacket is the big pond on the other side of Joseph Sylvia State Beach, which is a barrier beach that separates the ocean from the pond. From April 1 to August 31, NO DOGS are permitted (24/7) on either side of the barrier beach (not on State Beach and not along the shoreline of the pond.) These beaches are habitat for several endangered bird species - dogs and small birds trying to nest don’t mix well! We love dogs on MV but in summer many beaches and areas don’t allow dogs or have strict dog rules. Check the MV Chamber of Commerce website for more information.

You can take the 13 bus or ride a bike, both really nice and easy. My favorite bike route with water on both sides. Get off at several portions of beach, watch fishing or surf riders, spend the day at the beach, all lovely- and of course, visit a classic Jaws landmark. Two iconic towns on either end, the bike path is marvelous- wide, well maintained and accessible.

This beach was great for our young kids who could actually swim in the water. There were lots of rocks and shells so water shoes would be a nice addition. The only real downside is there aren’t any restroom options at the beach—otherwise I would give it 5 stars.

Great beach, east to get to via bike or car. The water is clear and warm. The waves were quiet. Looking forward to going back.

Beautiful beach, free with parking. A lovely spot to chill and enjoy the ocean. We went early and left after a couple of hours once the families with small children started to arrive. Right on the way to Oak Bluffs so went on our way to find lunch.
