We were originally bound for Skaket Beach, but we were turned away because it had reached max capacity. We headed to Rock Harbor Beach instead. It was very crowded and there was a very foul smell akin to sulfur or an open sewer. The water did not look very clean, so we did not feel comfortable swimming in it. We did enjoy when the low tide came. It was beautiful to watch.

We love coming here for the sunset when we are on the Cape. It's a great place to walk in the sand. An added plus is seeing the Coast Guard rescue boat on display from the 1952 rescue of the crew of the Pendleton tanker. Watch The Finest Hours and then come see the boat!

One of my most favorite walks on the Cape is going out on the flats at low tide. I start before dead low tide and follow the trees that mark the channel, and walk for at least 1/2 mile.....the water is warm, the sand is soft.....but, you have to watch out for little crabs! On a sunny, blue sky, day a walk on the flats reminds me of the beauty to be found bay side.

Parking was ample and free. Beach during low tide is pretty cool. It was an experience to walk the "sea" when then water is out further. Walked about maybe half a mile out, but you get the gist. Good family site for some simple fun and enjoyment of nature.

Beautiful sunsets. Knocking a star off because the secrets out. It was so busy this time compared to 10 years ago when we were here. It was midweek too. Still a beautiful spot for a sunset. Prepare to enjoy it with a lot of ppl tho. The Captain Cass seafood place next door wasn’t open on this past visit. We got some fish chowder there last time.

During low tide we were able to walk about a 1/2 mile out and see the oyster cage. My son enjoyed picking up the hermit crabs and shrimp as there were an abundance of them.

Put this on your must see bucket list. It's captivating. It's beautiful. It's a place where you can spend hours enjoying yourself or spending time with family.

Rock Harbor Marsh is a very shallow water area. There are miles of exposed tidal flats with pockets of water here and there. As the tide comes in and out some of the pockets become running water. All of these water pockets and water ways are filled with small ocean life. We saw hermit crabs, horseshoe crabs, spider crabs and several other we could not identify. We walked for over an hour while the sun was setting. It was completely relaxing and fun.

As the sun set, there was a whole new experience to enjoy. The pockets of water everywhere became reflective mirrors bouncing the setting sun back up. It's a captivating scene to watch. The pine trees that they plant have reflective street signs on them. They are very out of place, but it actually ends up being cool. The trees with the sign and setting sun add an artistic flair that is beautiful.

Back near the dock there were dozens of families and couples set up with beach chairs and picnic baskets. They had wine and cheese while they watched the sun set. A steel drum band was playing beach music for the crowd. It made an already wonderful place even better.

Do not go to the Cape and not make a visit to this place at sunset.

One of the nicest places to see the Sunset on the Cape. Make sure you wear a hoodie though, as most the times it can be quite buggy at night. If you get there at low tide you can walk way out or down to Skaket Beach. The view is different every time you visit., but as long as there is sun and no clouds , you'll be guaranteed to a great sunset. This year there were port a potties, which was a added bonus. Was also interesting seeing the Lifeboat CG-36500 that there was a movie about. They had a little hut, with facts and memorabilia at the end of the parking lot.
Sometimes they even have music groups to listen to before the sun sets.

Rock Harbor is a must on an evening where there has been sun and clouds. It is a breathtaking spot. It's fun to just hang out and watch the boats come in, see what they caught. Great for all ages
