Average fishing conditions. Ponds need attention
Paid an extra £50 to fish on Major Bill Specimen lake to catch some carp but caught mainly cat fish! Dad fished the Tench pool and only caught Bream. No wi fi or phone signal which was a hinderance. A couple of the lakes are over run with water Lillies so heavier tackle is needed otherwise you get snapped off. All in all not great but accommodation was ok, clean and tidy. We did feel that we’d paid enough for a week (£900) without being charged extra for carp pond 🤷‍♀️

    EXCELLENT FISHING HOLIDAY!
We went in early July 2023 as a party of 3 blokes aged 45,62 and 88,mainly for the fishing and a chaps vacation. The management team were brilluant in answering numerous pre trip email enquiries quickly and that was very much appreciated given that this was a new venue for us. We stayed in a single storey 3 bed unit in a terrace of 4 located close to the Pub and tackle shop and pre ordered a supermarket grocery delivery which Tesco brought right to our door bang on time. It was nice and quiet, with a terrace containing a pub style bench which suited us with lovely views down the valley. The accomodation was clean, tidy and comfortable with the only niggles being the lack of a freezer and nothing with which to sharpen the one blunt kitchen knife supplied. Otherwise , the kitchen was quite adequately equipped for our needs. Given we had my Dad with us aged 88,it was very handy to be able to drive and park a vehicle right next to the lakes, although it could be a bit of a squeeze parking if arriving on the chosen lake late in the morning. The Tackle shop was a very pleasant surprise having a huge range of goodies, with knowledgeable staff and every sort of bait you could want including live baits such as worms, casters and maggots and pretty much everything else from tins of corn to meat to boilies in sizes from 8mm and up, in a wide range of sweet and savoury flavours, along with wafters, floaters , pellets, groundbait mixes, flavourings, glugs and everything else. All of this, as well as the tackle and clothing on sale, was at more or less internet prices which was great and didnt leave us feeling ripped off at all, unlike other venues we've tried in the past. We fished every lake except major bill between us and all caught a good number of various species including tench to 4lb, carp to 12lb, bream to 4lb and countless silvers and crucians. On one day two of us had 68 carp between us on 15mm krill boilies soaked in krill flavouring but you can catch on anything if you have any idea what you're doing. We ate in the on site pub a few times which we all thought provided excellent food and service and good value for money, I have reviewed that separately. Overall, a great time had by all in lovely surroundings and very good value for money indeed. Highly recommended!!

Beware no phone signal or Wi-Fi
There is absolutely no way of communicating with anybody unless you are in the restaurant. It's ridiculous you cannot make a simple phone from anywhere else on the complex or from the accommodation. Very frustrated not being able to have this basic need. Everything else OK apart from basic accommodation no shower no towels and a very hard uncomfortable bed. Please upgrade your facilities.

    Beware - no towels!
This was a very peaceful and tranquil place and great for fishing I am sure, if that is your bag. The staff on arrival and in the restaurant we very helpful and friendly and the food was excellent. The accommodation was very clean but rather dated. But most extraordinarily there were NO towels, tea towels, etc provided. Also no washing up liquid or wiping cloths etc . This is most peculiar for fairly expensive self catering accommodation. We were unable to washup at all, luckily only stayed for 2 nights. There was NO information in the booking documents about no towels and when I asked, some towels were provided but with the statement ' we do not provide towels' . Surely towels are as important as sheets in modern accommodation !! Beware.

We have been to Docklow three times and have booked again for next year, that says it all. Fantastic fishing, great accommodation, wonderful facilities. As soon as we arrive we feel totally relaxed. Can't wait for our next visit.

Visited Docklow October 2023. Mainly bivvied up on major bills...carp to 23lb, cats to 32lb. Also fished the river Wye Docklow beat...caught chub and barbel. Overall a fantastic venue with well stocked pools of good quality fish. Accommodation was excellent and the food even better! Friendly, helpful staff rounded of an altogether brilliant fishing holiday...if you're after a fishing holiday set in a beautiful and peaceful surroundings you should look no further than Docklow Pools 😍

OK, here we both are, 2 very mature, fair-weather fishers, staring down the barrel of several gloomy winter months, but keeping ourselves warm with the prospect of 2 more visits to the delightful Docklow Pools next year. We first found this lovely fishery back in 1985 and can only now wonder why we’ve missed so many years since! It’s everything we as a couple could wish for. It’s peaceful, the accommodation is stunning, as is the variety of fishing available, and absolutely everyone behind the scenes is determined to ensure all visitors have a memorable stay. 5 stars?…..nowhere near enough, folks, so no time to waste. Get booked up right away and discover the delights of Docklow for yourselves.

Docklow is an absolute gem for anglers. It is a beautiful, secluded group of well stocked pools, complete with its own very well stocked tackle shop (you could turn up with nothing and be able to buy everything you needed for a week's fishing), a lovely pub-restaurant and some great accommodation. I've had a couple of short breaks with my brother, staying in the B&B first time round and one of the cottages on the second visit. Both times were excellent! Fishing, food and service were all top notch! I'd highly recommend this place, you won't be disappointed!

We had such a lovely time at Docklow Pools that we booked another weekend there almost as soon as got back!
The accommodation is comfortable but the surroundings is what makes the place so great. It is so peaceful and we all enjoyed being around the lakes so much, those of us that don't fish took a book or just enjoyed the surroundings.
The Fishermans Arms is fantastic! Great food and great service everyday.

We left a night early because it was such a miserable place to stay. Expensive and very outdated accommodation, Jim's Retreat, £130/night. No wifi in cabin, £1 slot machine for electricity (it ran out while I was in the shower!), no towels, no washing up liquid, no soap. A long book with laughable rules. I will clearly be banned for writing an adverse report, as "welcome pack" tells me this will happen. There was a dripping hot tap on arrival, that was sorted quickly. All the staff in the restaurant were lovely.

Beautiful lakes and grounds. Restaurant and coffee shop are great and good value. Our accommodation was cosy and clean (dovecote). Fishing was good with lots of choices on offer, probably more suited to the match angler on the whole, but there is a specimen lake if wanted a larger target. Tackle shop on site is a very good one with knowledgeable staff. My highlight was how great the staff are in the office and Restaurant/bar really could not do enough for you.

We have been coming here for the last 9 years and absolutely love it. Great fishing, tackle shop and pub on-site - what more could you want. We'll be back next year, Andy & Sandra
