Went there with a group of 10 half of us were children they absolutely loved the rock climb and walk in the Woods. Parking is 5.00 dollars for MA residents and it's a great family activity for any fall day.

Very interesting rock formations and additional trails that can be explored. Also great place to pack a lunch and relax. Parking was $5 but still good!

This is a fun place to go and hike, read about how the chasm came to be, stay cool in the woods. Bring bug spray!

It's a fun hike through lots of rocks. There's a lot of climbing involved, it's not for someone who is not surefooted. I wouldn't recommended anyone who needs help walking, or small dogs; there is a lot of crevices that a small dog could easily...More

Serene, peaceful, beautiful place. Bring good walking/hiking shoes, water bottle, insect repellent, rain gear. Ample parking. Modest entry fee. Wonderful pine scent from trees. Terrific hiking trails. Wildlife, birds, rocks, caves, exhibits. Visitors center. Restrooms inside office building and portable potties outside.

Even though this isn't what I'd consider a "hike" per say, I keep going back every year. It's a good excuse to get out into the woods and there's a lot to explore. Whether you're taking a leisurely walk or want to try a bit...More

Wear good hiking shoes and wander into the cavelike trail at Purgatory State Park. This is not good for small children or people who cant climb rocks and venture into some tricky and rugged areas. There is a nice swing and play area for the...More

If you googled your question... you would probably get your answer there in more detail. It was beautiful and interesting.. it was a natural chasm , not man made! That’s all I know... I was there to hike.

FYI.. The outer trails are always open in nice weather. The chasm is closed for the season and will reopen in April I believe. Of course it is always weather dependent for safety issues. I hope this helps.
