American Jewelry and Loan American Jewelry and Loan is owned by Leslie "Les" Gold, the son of a pawnbroker who once owned Sam's Loans, a now-defunct pawnshop on Michigan Avenue in Detroit. Les first opened American Jewelry at the Green Eight Shopping Center on 8 Mile Road in Oak Park in 1978, moving to its present location in 1993.The Gold family and the daily operations of the store are the subject of the truTV reality show 'Hardcore Pawn'. This flagship show has broken numerous audience records and recently celebrated its 100th episode. Visitors are often surprised to learn that the store still operates as a full-service pawn shop and that members of the Gold family are still heavily involved in the daily operations in the store despite their busy filming and appearance schedules.

We stopped in, probably more curious to see if the store was anything like it was depicted on tv. Were there long lines of people waiting to pawn their items or get their items out of pawn? Yes, but I didn't see the crazy, cone...More

The Jewler is a master of solving difficult issues with jewelry. He also has a very interestng collection of items - I love going to his store because he is friendly and the store is customer friendly. I recommend this Jewler unconditionally.

Since I've seen many editions of the TV series, and was a couple of days in the city, I had a quick look inside, with some potential souvenirs in my mind. In only recognised 2 employees, and the owner was still present in carton. I...More

It seems the best days of Hardcore Pawn are over, recently visited for a second time and what a major disappointment. First outside on the parking lot, not a very warm welcome, actually a number of street bums gather there, it does not give a...More
