Restoring a Gem.
Sep 2021
Progress continues to be made on the restoration of this grand building by the Ford Motor Company to bring it back to its original grandeur and function as a mobility hub for the company. Construction fencing prevented me from getting too close to the building, but from a distance I could see that the building had been cleaned and repairs done to the exterior. I'm not sure if Ford has replaced the poor quality windows put in by the Moroun's while they owned the station with architecturally correct ones yet.

With all the construction going on, the station isn't open to the public. Restoration on Michigan Central is expected to be complete in the fourth quarter of 2022.

Thank You Bill Ford.
Aug 2019
I think all Detroiter's were excited, including myself, to here about the Ford Motor Companies purchase of Michigan Central Station and it's plans to bring this historic beauty back to it's former glory, after years of neglect by the Moroun family.

While it'll be a few years before the work is complete, Ford has a nearby information center on Michigan Ave manned by friendly and knowledgeable students from the University of Michigan. There are several displays and videos providing information on Ford's plans for the building and it's Corktown campus. There's also a few artifacts recovered from the building, including a very old Stroh's beer bottle.

This longtime symbol of decline, will soon become a symbol of Detroit's comeback, thanks to Bill Ford.

Way to bad you can't get inside. A lot of security and a fence around. So it's pretty far to even see the building.

Winter festival

Ford has been putting on tons of events for the community which is wonderful. In January we were able to go on the last day and check out the videos and pictures. It was set up wonderfully. Little shops were inside the heated tent and food vendors were available. It was beautiful.

A beautiful building that is going to be fully restored by the Ford Motor Family. A must see for all residents and visitors. They have started renovation and have featured some events.

A grand building which is no longer accessible
Dec 2018 • Couples
Michigan central station is a beautiful building from the exterior but it can no longer be accessed. We had gone hoping to walk through the remains but it has been enclosed by fences. Take a look just the same.

Scary to most

I moved here in '07, this place was, and is, in a concealed carry part of town.
A few years back it sprouted a barbed wire perimeter.
Most recently, I heard on the local news, it has been acquired by Ford for use as some kind of office space.
It's a place that makes you wonder, given it's original purpose and long history.
Only wish I would have trespassed before the barbed wire.

Check out the PBS special on this structure if you can before you go. This was supposed to be quite the transportation hub in its day. Currently in pretty dilapidated condition and being refurbed.

Would loved to have been able to see inside.
Hope to return once the refurbishment is completed by Ford.
