Nice way to see Escanaba offshore! The harbor offers a nice protected area for novice paddlers or a safe space during windy days. Otherwise explore the point, see the light house from water, or venture out past the beach. Staff oriented us & helped us launch. It's not high adventure, but definitely a fun way to spend an afternoon! We rented kayaks, but they also offer stand up paddle boards.
My only complaint: for out of towners it costs $30 + TAX / 1st hour. Pricey compared to other Midwest locations.
Be aware of other watercraft and wind surfers. Your belongings in the boat will probably get wet so leave valuables & non-submersibles at home.
Weather and waves can change quickly on the water--watch weather patterns if you venture into the bay. Winds are variable. Stay away from where the waves break, especially along rocky shoreline. ALWAYS Wear a life jacket. It will bring you to the surface, even if you're not able. Enjoy!

We completely agree. Escanaba has a diverse shoreline and paddling on a kayak or paddleboard provides a unique way to experience it.

Rick and Jared are very special guys and extremely accommodating. We never guessed we'd receive such great customer service; they blew us away! If you're visiting Michigan's Upper Peninsular give them a call and they will truly enhance your experience. If you live here the opportunity to enjoy watersports is fantastic, I humbly suggest you take advantage of your location. Thanks so much guys, Stan & Maggie

It was So Much Fun! Totally worth it! I was thinking about going all summer. Rode the jet ski from Gladstone to Esky and back in an hour with time to spare. So fun.

Great experience! Check in was easy/fast; Very professional and Boards were in great shape. Area was very large and not busy with boat activity. We were protected within the bay. We had some beginners within our group and not having boats near us was a huge advantage. Highly recommend this rental group if you are in the area and want to get some exercise on the lake!

I was extremely satisfied with my online experience with renting kayaks from MISH Watersports when family visited the UP in July. We all had so much fun!!! .Four out of our group of eight had never gone kayaking before and they had a great first experience!!!. It's definitely on our "to do" list when they visit again next year.

It could have not been easier and more fun !! It took only 5 minutes to pay and get some quick tips and we were on the water having a great time. The location in Ecanaba harbor by the boathouse allows you to circle the entire island and get out on Lake Michigan.

Great people working there. We were afraid there wouldn't be any kayaks left when we got there mid day, but they have a lot of them and a lot of paddle boards. They got us checked in and going very quickly and we had a lot of fun. Great service to have!

I had a great experience both times I rented from Mish. All of the employees were pleasant whenever I entered the beach house, whether I was there to rent from them or not. The 50% discount for Delta County residents is huge!

It's always great to see repeat customers, because it means we are doing something right. The Delta County discount allows people the opportunity to get out and enjoy our beautiful waterfront often without breaking the bank.

MISH wasn't supposed to be open for another week, but Jarred responded immediately to my email, saying he could meet me at the beach house anytime. A light southerly breeze gave me lots of choices: putter in protected, waist-deep water in the bay to the south, explore the ore docks to the north (a small ship in dry dock - cool!), or strike out in open water. I did all three. The ocean kayak looked new. I liked its stability and its adjustable backrest.
Good equipment, great setting, and a friendly, accommodating proprietor: what more can you ask? Go! Wear your life vest.

We used the paddle boards and kayak’s in Escanaba and then the jet skis in Gladstone. Both were a lot of fun! We were worried about the jet skis and having something to do, since there were 7 of us and only 2 skis but they are on a nice beach. Half of us played while the other half skied. The girl in Escanaba was very helpful and nice. I did ask about a military discount and none was offered, that’s my only negative .

Would this be a good idea for 18, 20 and a mom who thinks she's their age to try? None of us have ever even canoed or been in/on a boat other then a ferry.

Absolutely! We launch kayaks and paddleboards in the calm protective waters of the Escanaba Harbor. It’s a great place to learn and we provide some quick instructions to help get you started.
