Windmill Island Gardens is home to de Zwaan windmill, the last mill allowed to be transported from the Netherlands. de Zwaan still functions by grinding locally-grown grain into flour that is sold to visitors and local businesses. A highlight of visiting is a tour of this historic working windmill. Visitors can enjoy music from our antique Dutch street organ given to the City of Holland by the City of Amsterdam after World War II. Children can also ride on our antique carousel from the Netherlands. There are several other replica Dutch buildings and shops. The Island is home to beautiful gardens which feature tulips in the spring followed by beautiful annuals and perennials throughout the summer. Please note that the Island is open seasonally, April 14 - October 7, 2018. Last tickets sold at 5 pm.

Everything was closed. You could still go up in the windmill though. No shops open but admission fee was waived because of it. There were still a few pretty flowers and we watched them planting the tulip bulbs. I bet it's gorgeous when they are...More

The genuine Dutch windmill is worth the visit both in the tourist season when it is open to the public and in the off-season when it is not. This little village is truly a piece of the Netherlands.

The scenery and atmosphere surrounding this attraction makes one believe he is in the Netherlands. The huge windmill was imported from the Netherlands, and the gardens, bridges are all very attractive.

Visited Windmill Island looking for a good display of tulips, but we missed the prime blooming time. Even though we did, this was a nice place to walk around, but it wasn't anything extraordinary. This is very much a tourist area with shops and is...More

This has always been a favorite place of mine during the Tulip Festival in May. That's when all the local venders set up their goods for sale, all dressed in 'authentic' years ago outfits and it's really fun to go through all of the rows...More

After hiking the sand dunes by Lake Michigan, we popped over to Windmill Island Gardens to view the village. It's rather small, interesting, and yes, a bit costly. The highlight is to take a tour up into the windmill to see its inner workings. Incredible...More

Hi Joyce - the majority of our tulips are in bloom right now. Cold temps help the blooms stay longer so we're happy about the cooler weather. On the 10th we should still have many tulips in bloom. Keep an eye on our website... More
