Overview

More
This is Mackinac Island State Park, a landscape characterized by high limestone bluffs, beautiful vistas of sparkling water, vibrant forests, and mystical geological formations. With automobiles banned since 1898, here exists a quieter way of life away from interstate noise of cities. Over 80 percent of Mackinac Island is within Mackinac Island State Park—free of charge and open year round—where you’ll discover the true natural gems of Mackinac. Whether visiting this island parkland by foot, bike, horseback, or carriage, these many majestic geological wonders and unique historical monuments are visual treasures found only here—on the island sacred to the Ojibwa and Odawa Great Lakes Indian tribes. According to them, this is where life began. You’re invited to discover why.

The scenery and the island are beautiful. But plan on only staying a day or two because there isn’t a whole lot to do here. Still recommend a visit

Been here a few times, and we discover something new each time. We stayed close to the touristy things before, but branched out this trip and went towards the center of the island. Did a bit of hiking, a bit of pushing an ECV up...More

We had a very enjoyable ride through the State Park. Our driver was Excellent unfortunately I can not remember his name. He had three horses, Jessie, Martin and Jacob. The driver explained a lot about the island and made it amusing.

Another visit to this island was spectacular! We...just .. walk.. Around the island! Through the island! THe center of the island and oposite end of the island are really peaceful during the fall months.

Hello, camping is prohibited in Mackinac Island State Park, but there are several hotels and B&B's on the island. We suggest contacting the Mackinac Island Tourism Bureau for hotel suggestions. Thank you!

I traveled the island by carriage but there were plenty of tourists on bike. There were many places to lock up your bike if you wished to hike a trail. Hope this helps.
