The temple structure was built in 1000 BC. Quite unimaginable how such a tall and massive structure was built in this part of the world. The layout of the temple is a replica of the Jerusalem temple of the Jews. It is said that the influence of St.Thomas and other Jewish diaspora to India in the early century could have... More

Just imagine this Big Temple was built 300 years back, without any engineering drawing, modern equipments and earth movers! A fantastic work of art.... Very well maintained and illumination at night is pretty cool....

The most famous Shiva temple is here. Great architecture, awesome marvel. The detailed cutting and finishing is just too good. I travelled from Trichy to this temple by bus. It took close to an hour and half. The bus dropped us right outside the temple. First there is an entry gate which has good art work on it. After entering... More

Worth the visit. It is so underated. Cannot believe that it was not busier. Instead of leaving shoes at the designated place, take a spare bag and put them in your rucksack - You won't need to worry that anybody is going to steal your shoes.

You just have to see it to feel the greatness and how amazing ancient india is. It is must and no miss kind of temple. Above that ASI has maintained it very... More

Stands stunning, magnificent edifice with its majestic vimana, sculptures, architecture and frescoes, has a wealth and richness of Tamil inscriptions engraved on stone in superb calligraphy. The builder of this temple has left behind a very large number of inscriptions on the temple's construction, its various parts, the daily rituals to be performed for the Linga, the details of the... This is one of the architectural wonders of India, created by then Cholas. The Shiva temple constructed by Raja raja Chola is more than a 1000 years old and is a UNESCO heritage site. The fully granite structure will simply memorise you. The big courtyard and the surroundings, added by Marathas and Nayakars are also splendid. There is also a... More
