Raw and unfinished sculptures with beautiful message

Do not expect a fancy finish of Gompa like other normal ones. This place is kept raw as a message for people that world is changing and will keep on changing every second. Visit to this place counts while you are in Mustang.

A unique Nyingma monastery, easily accessible on the Annapurana trail.

This is a really unusual little gompa. The facades are not like any others I've seen, though the paintings inside are damaged by rain, as in so many other places. There's a 3m bamboo clay statue of Guru Rinpoche, but you need to exercise some patience whilst the keys are located to let you in. There's a small community of young monks being revived there, so the caretaker or his wife is usually around.
The most amazing new paintings are underway in a new shrine room. To see these and the work in progress you need to be lucky enough to arrive when the head lama and his brother are around - the artists.
If you're unlucky and no one is around, there are some information posters hung up about the history and residents, so you can still get some understanding of the place.
The gompa is on the annapurna trail south of Jomsom - so don't just follow your guide along the dusty road to Tukuche, but cross the suspension bridge to the west bank past the Tibetan camp, to Chhairo.
