Recently I went on Gosaikunda (4380 mtrs.) Trek to celebrate Nepalese New Year 2073 with four friends (Santosh, Sujan, Srijana & Suresh). We bought our tickets a day before. We choose to travel by Deluxe Bus and cost us NRs. 600 per person. The basic itinerary of our trekking is below:

April 12: Started bus ride at 8:30 AM from Machhapokhari, Kathmandu - Dhunche (District headquarter of Rasuwa). Reached there at 3:00 PM and started our trek just half an hour later and reached Deurali (2600 mtrs.) at 7:00 PM. Stayed for a night there in tent. Costs NRs. 400 per person for Nepali Food and tent stay.

April 13: Early in the morning at 7:30 AM we started ascending our trail. In about 45 minutes we reached Dhimsa (3100 mtrs.). Rest there. Had tea made of Yak milk. After half an hour later, we set our foot and reached Sing Gompa (3250 mtrs.) in about an hour. It's just a beautiful place. You can even buy cheese for your way from DDC Cheese Factory. On our way to next stop we met few trekkers from Israel. After walking one and half an hour we reached Cholangpati (3518 mtrs.). Had lunch there. Cost NRs. 300 per person. Rest for a while. And on walking about an hour and half we reach Laure Bina (3901 mtrs.). The ascend there is very steep and hard. Even the trail after Laure Bina is also very steep for about an hour walk. Then the trail goes somewhat easy. First Kunda or lake we saw on the way was Saraswati Kunda. After few minutes walk we saw another one Bhairab Kunda. Finally we were there. It's Gosaikunda. It's already been 7:00 PM, so we decided to visit early in the morning. We went to one of the teahouse and checked in there. There were 5 Israeli around the fire. We joined them. Had talks for hours. It's Nepalese New Year Day and the nature gifted us with snowfall. Ran out of the teahouse. Played snow. Clicked pictures. That's the awesome moment. Back to teahouse. Had dinner. Again started talks with tourists and their guides. At around 12:00 AM went for sleep. Pretty much excited to face Gosaikunda. Had nice sleep cause of whole day trek. Night stay and Nepali food costs us NRs. 600 per person there.

April 14: Woke up at 5:00 AM in the morning. No one was awake. Even the teahouse opens only after 6:00 AM. Decided to go out. Wore shoes and went out. The view outside was just everything. Snow everywhere. All peaks and teahouses and everything covered in snow. I couldn't stop myself from exploring it. Then I did notice that I was wearing shoes from two different pairs. I laughed at myself. But didn't care to switch. Who'd delay the chance to explore that beauty just for the sake of odd pair of shoes. Went nearby the lake, was slightly frozen nearby bank. I was lucky enough to get chance to see sunrise. Those snow covered peaks were shining like gold. Then I remembered that I forgot to bring camera with me. But then thought some things are better left uncaptured. Explored whole lake and surroundings. At around 8:00 AM I returned back to teahouse. Everyone was awake and were enjoying view. When I got there everyone was laughing at me cause of my odd pair of shoes. Even Srijana managed to capture that in her camera. Then we all went to lake. This time I'd a camera. Captured tons of pictures while surrounding Gosaikunda. Returned back around 11:30 AM, had some lunch and checked out of teahouse. Set our descend trek at 12:00 PM following the same route. While we were just above Laure Bina it started snowing. Met many trekkers on our way back ascending to Gosaikunda. We used to say "Namastee" and start talking to them. That was actually nice meeting many new peoples and interacting with them. Just few meters from reaching Sing Gompa it started raining. We stayed there for a while. Rain stopped. Bought Cheese there. Again started descending. Santosh and I were a bit ahead of others. After leaving Dhimsa behind, we met few Nepalese trekkers and greeted them. One of them seems to be amazed with my greeting. After small conversation, he started laughing. We asked him why he was laughing that hard. He thought that I was Israeli and friend with me, Santosh, was my porter and guide. He was thinking how on Earth any foreigner could have that good Nepalese accent. We all laughed. Waived them good bye and again started descending. Reached Dhunche at 8:30 PM and booked a room for NRs. 400 and had Nepali food for dinner at NRs. 130 per person. Cause of day long tiring walk went to sleep early.

April 15: Bought tickets and returned for Kathmandu at 7:30 AM. Bus ticket costs NRs. 280 per person. Arrived Kathmandu at 3:30 PM.

That was one of my first long trek. Now trekking has became my newest addiction but of course after Programming and Coffee. Next route Annapurna Circuit Trek Including Tilicho Lake during Mid-October, 2016.

Gosainkund (Frozen) lake, one of the Holy and beautiful place. It is on 4400 m in the mountain, in winter season the whole lake can be froze, where we can walk.
It is historical place as per Hindu mythology, when gods and demons were together, they talked to take out things from seas, so they put one mountain in seas near Thailand and make rope from the big snake called Basuki. they start shaking sea, and start come many things. One time one most danger poison from seas, everybody were scared, and in mean time Lord Shiva came and take this poison on his neck, but it was very danger, if he sallow it he could die if he through out from neck it can be destroyed whole galaxy. Then he took on his neck, but he start to feel very burn on his neck, so he try to find very cold place with very cold water. Then he reach in Gaisai kund, he found there very cold water, and he dig the land by his weapon later water came out from land and he made lake and sleep there. So peple still believe lord shiva is still in this lake.
So many people visit this place as pilgrim, as well thousand of tourist also visit there for natural beauty as a trekkers.

Your trekking to the lake Gosaikunda will lay through a couple of exciting places.
You can take a local bus from Kathmandu. We did. Our tickets costed 350 rps per person. It was not the most comfortable drive in my life, therefore, I recommend you to reserve a seat. The bus is going to be full. After 7 hours of jolting in the bus, you will come to a little village named Dunche. The cheapest price for a double room is about 700 rps.
When you will start trekking, you will pass a couple of stunning beautiful places. The first night you will spend the most probable in a little place named Sing Gumpa. I recommend you to try here:
1. Yak cheese (actually it is nak - female yak, but tourists don't understand this word, therefore, yak is used as a trend)
2. Dhal Bat with locally produced red rice
3. A mushroom soup. This soup is amazing. It contains 3 different types of mushrooms which an owner of a local lodge picks up in the forest. It costs 280 rps. When I tried the mushroom soup in Gosaikunda lodge I was very disappointed. It costed 350 rps but didn't basically contain anything. Just a brown water. I downloaded here a collage with mushroom soup from both places.
The second night you will spend in Gosaikunda. Be prepared! This night is going to be very cold! Prices here as high as altitude. They want 1200 rps for a double room. The toalett is frozen. Take a warm sleeping back if you are planning to visit the Gosaikunda in the end of November - mid December.
Next day you can go even more up to the Suryakund lake (4640m). It is 1.5 hours up trekking. It is worth to visit.
Have very nice time in Langtang and don't leave your garbage in nature!!!

A bus ride from Balaju (Kathmandu) will take you to Dhunche (in Rasuwa district). Buses leave in the morning and you'd want to check timings prior to your travel. There are very basic lodgings in Dhunche which is the last stop for vehicles. Here is where the trek starts.
Alternative route starts from Sundarijal in East Kathmandu.

Avoid travel plans during festivals as the buses stop service. The bus ride, then, was like an adventure and scary at times.

There is a big festival here during Shiva Ratri which falls in June-July. If you are looking for peace and tranquility, avoiding these times are better. Besides spring and autumn months, I feel are best to trek in these places. June/July is rainy season and leeches can be troublesome.

There are four places with food and lodging on the way to Gosaikunda. First is Deurali, then Chandanbari which is bigger with more options. They also have a dairy here selling yak cheese. Lauri bena is not far from Cholangpaty. We stayed a night at Lauri bena before reaching Gosaikunda in the morning.

It was late March. As we went higher the path was covered with snow. Good waterproof boots and bags are advised. Carry food like chocolates or anything you prefer. Keep the backpack light though. Emergency medicines may be needed. A torch light and a walking stick, probably a sleeping bag for extra warmth may be necessary. It depends on when you go too. We met porters with other hikers on the way. People maintaining those accommodations are very friendly. My friends and I, were slightly nauseated and lost our appetite in the higher altitudes.

Similar accomodations can be found in Gosaikunda itself. The lake was frozen when we reached. The views are stunning on the way. Locals do the trip, to and fro, in a day. Pace your trip well according to your ability. It is best not to be separated from the group. We walked in an informal line with the slowest walker in front with no one overtaking him. If anyone wanted a rest, everyone stopped.

It is well worth making the trip which will forever be etched in your memories.

Trek To GOSAIKUNDA

First do plan your trek for atleast 4-5 days and do buy early morning tickets from KTM-DHUNCHE jeep/bus from Macchapokhari,Newbuspark

Day 1: Early morning 7:30am onwards vehicles are available and as Nepali Time it will leave from buspark at around 8am.
(Note: If you go via Jeep/tatasumo they will take less time than bus depends upon your luck on traffice jaam :) )
By around 2/3pm you will reach Dhunche (ht. 2030mtr).If you want to rest then you can stay at Dhunche where many hotels are available and or else like me start your trek and target to reach till Deurali (place where only one hotel is available). Since monsoon started so it rained and we were walking upwards along with raincoats on. You need around 2/3 hrs time to trek upwards till Deurali(ht 2625m). Eat dalbhat and have a goodnight sleep so that you get pumped up for tomorrow.

Day2:
Always start your trek as early as possible as to skip the sun(ladies tan you see). Woke up at 5:15 am got ready packed bags and start to trek upwards around 6:30am after tea biscuits breakkie. Please do carry water so that you get hydrated througout. After an hour and so you will reach Dhimsa (ht 3007m) have a rest then again hike upwards then after an hour you will reach beautifulplace called Chandanbari(Singompa) (ht 3200m) which have plenty of hotel, cheese factory with beautifulwooden homestay with a good view. You can buy churpis or yak cheese if you want but i didnt buy just clicked photos with the yak and cheese.
Eat dalbhat so that “Dalbhaatpower24hr”. After clicking photos and all stuffs hike towards Cholangpati (ht 3584m) with slow walk at around 2:30pm. Throughout the hike chocolates, tirauras and bhujiyas helped alot. Then at around 5pm finally reached the nightstay place called Laurebina (ht 3900m) which have only 3 hotels with yumm food. The place from where beautiful view of Langtang range can be seen. After a good black marich tea and rest you can enjoy the bornfire along with the hotel person and other guests. Had fun listening to the stories about Gosaikunda(ht 4380m). I was excited for tomorrow as after 3.5 hrs uphill trek we were going to reach our Final destination (Gosaikunda). After a long day slept well with good vibes for tomorrow.

Day 3:
Early to bed early to rise makes person to reach on time.We hike till Buddha Mandir which was steep upward hill then with breath taking views of Mt.Langtang, hills, waterfalls and nature we were just mesmerized and pumped up. Finally after all the upward and downward hills pheww reached Gosaikunda at around 9:30am. Trust me its worth the walk the place is beautiful and also very very peaceful. We went near by inside the kunda and took bath for about only 1 min as the water was freaking cold but thankfully it was sunny day then workshipped Lord Shiva and was just happy to be there. Clicked photos and enjoyed the view as much as we can then Hunger no longer ate food and then we trek backwards to Laurebina. Then downwards trek was pain in legs and it was too tiring. Finally reached Chandanbari at around 5:30 pm stayed for night there took hot shower and ate food. There was no energy left as we were like hell tired but was very happy with the day overall. Slept in a blink of an eye :)
Day 4: Again trek downwards till we reach Dhunche. No Pain no gain and finaly we reached Dhunche at around 1pm. Me and my wife did this trek last year, it was probably my best trek in 3 years of living in Nepal.

The lake itself is beautiful, but also the forests and the mountain scenery on the way are also amazing. There are many good lodges which will give you wholesome food and great hospitality. We went with the trekking guide Tsering from Himalayan Sherpa Adventure, he is a very friendly, honest, and knowledgeable guide, and also just generally a nice guy. He has great knowledge of the flora and fauna, the culture and people of the area, and he made sure that we had a great trek.

I'd highly recommend doing this trek, and I'd also highly recommend trekking with Tsering!

Wonderful ten days with excellent guide and porter from Alpine Explore Nepal that organized the trek very good. Startet at Syabru Bensi ( The road from Katmandu to Syabru was also an experience). Beatyful an various nature, springtime with blooming rhododendrons. The weather was clear in the morning, cold nights. Two nights in Kyanjin Gompa (3800m) in the nice Hotel Peaceful) with climbing up to Chari Kuri 4900 m. This was a wonderful climb, snow on the top and a spectactular panorama over the peaks around. I was also visiting the monastry in Kyanjin Gompa.
From Lauribininyak we had a morning hike up to the holy Gosainkunda Lake (4310 m) . The lake was still covered with ice and there was snow up there- beutyful. The trek ended at Dunche were the car was wailting. The hotel/thehouses were nice with good food and very nice personal. In the evening we were sitting around the fireplace like a big family. It was my first solo trek, no problem! But, remember high sun-factor. The sun in really buring in this high altitide!
Thanks to Alpine Explore Nepal for organizing this wonderful trek, and to my very clever guide!
