The nuns, "anis", at Ghar Gompa are a wonderful, well trained group of women, fully accomplished in all aspects of Himalayan Vajrayana Buddhist practice. The nunnery is about 20 minutes down from them in temples and well worth a visit.

One of the oldest gompas in the region - older than the oldest gompa of Tibet. You can hike to this place easily via Tsarang. This avoids the 4200m high saddle. Usually, trekkers are taking the Dakmar route.

camping above Ghar Gompa is fantastic but make sure you and your crew are adequately protected from the wind in this exposed spot.
