Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We fist saw the glacier a short walk from Daboche, it was covered in rocks and rubble, could just see a bit of ice here and there plus some melt water pools. Later when we reached EBC we had been walking on it for a while and I didn't even realise until I escaped some rocks away or saw it bearing from under rocks. Amazing to think I was walking on ice and didn't even realise.

The glacier is just constantly moving and is like walking on the moon. Everything is grey! It looks dormant but the noise of shifting shale and moving ice will let you know that under all that stone lies a 'living' glacier, ever moving and cutting into the mountain side. There is no easy and direct route through the glacier, just follow the markings left by others. Ribbos, blue arrows, little stone pyramids, etc. On the way to or from Gokyo after/before the Cho la Pass, the glacier awaits you. Enjoy the little areas where water is trapped or the actual ice is visible. It is easy to forget that you will be traversing a living glacier for quite a period of time!

Until the guide pointed it out, I didn't even realize how big the Khumbu Glacier really was. As we were climbing up to EBC, he made a point of showing us when we started trekking on top of the glacier, even though the run-offs had it all covered with gravel and dirt so it really felt like you were walking on solid ground. However, when we stood for a moment and he pointed out really how far this glacier extends, that's when I began to take in the majesty of this force of nature.
Always moving, this is the main reason that there's such a narrow window of opportunity for the Everest summit. It makes getting to Camp I very treacherous. From EBC, however, it seemed very tame, but, I'm sure that's what the mountain wanted us to think.
Also, at some point, we saw pictures of how the glacier was in the past compared to how it is today, and you can see how it is moving back (I'm not sure that melting is the right word) ever so slightly, but, over the years, this has been a massive difference.

The magnificent view of the world's highest glacier gonna take your breadth away. You get to see the glacier on the last day of the ascending trek to Gorakhshep. The base of the glacier seems like cottons spread all over. The Everest Base Camp 1 is situated right over the glacier. So, during your hike to EBC, you will be actually on top of the Glacier.

I thought the Franz Joseph glazier in NZ was big until I saw this! Starting at the Base Camp below the Everest Mountain range, it's amazing force, moving billions of tonnes of snow, ice & rock is breathtaking.

You first encounter the Khumbu Glacier just before arriving at the tiny community of Thokla. You scramble across the boulders deposited at the tip of the glacier, cross a rickety bridge over the meltwater creek then climb up into Thokla. You then follow the glacier all the way to Everest Base Camp where the glacier makes a 90 degree turn up the side of the mountain. This part, the KhumbusIcefall, is perhaps the most dangerous part of the trek up Everest. Much of the glacier is covered in rock at the lower elevations but it truly reveals itself once you get above Gorak Shep and approach Base Camp. The colours can be spectacular in the right light.

Hi I am treking to EBC with two children from Lobuche to Gorak Shep route... is it safe to walk over the glacier? Are there dangers of caveats opening up?
