Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were taken by SL Navy by a special boat inside the harbour. One officer have information of what we saw during the ride.
It is a sea port in the Trinco bay which has an area of 5261 ha. It is a located in a strategic location in the Indian ocean.
In the 2nd word war, Japanese destroyed 3 British Warships here.Sri Lanka got the administration since 1956 from British.
The harbour cater bulk cargo. We saw 3 warships of the SL Navy anchored, a troller, a floating machinery that takes the mud deposited in order to maintain the depth of the harbour area.It has 1630 ha of water and it is very deep ( 1500 feet). We also saw 5 islands, Prima and Tokyo Cement factories and one Fuel storing tanks.
There were msmy jettys named as Prima jetty. Tokyo Cement jetty, oil jetty & Ashrof Quay. There are two entrances the large one is 500 meters wide meant for ships to enter and another one reserbed for fishermen. We got amazing views around the harbour.,

- This was located in Tricomalee face to see side with nearly 9 small islands.
- This is under control of Sri Lanka Navy and if you need to visit there first you need to get approval from them. It's not big process and you can request on arrival. But better if you can inform before.
- We were visited there by SL Navy boat and it was fantastic journey with lots of experiences.
- Navy members gave us lots of knowledge about this harbor and it was interesting.
- One special thing is this has only 2 entry points and because of it's structure large ships can stop there with safely. This is only for you information and i know you can't come with a ship :)
- We can see lots fisher men there since fish population is high in this area.
- Also you need hear all instructions that gave from Navy guys since you need to be safe when travelling with boat.

Was keen to see this old natural harbour that everyone talks about so much. A bit of a disappointment one must say. Not much to see unless we are completely mistaken :)

The bay is located by Trincomalee town on the north-east coast of the island.
You can see a Estuary here ..
Estuaries are coastal bays, harbors, sounds and lagoons, places where rivers meet the sea.

This natural harbour has been fought over for centuries. It provides excellent natural safety. It is huge and apparently deep too. Worth seeing
