The mosque is built up of 218 cedar wooden pillars to support the roof, it reminded my of the Mezquita in Cordoba, Spain. Also the ceiling is constructed of the same wood type and it looks amazing, a must visit when you are in Khiva.

This mosque is very atmospheric, and being totally shaded, is cool on a hot day. worth having a guide to explain the history and significance of the timber structure.

The mosque contains a great many timber columns. It is a wonderful place to relax and cool off on a hot day in Khiva. There are a few seats.

This is one of the places you sit down to inhale the atmosphere. The changing light of the day gives this place its special character. Wonderful wooden pillars, all are different and all make their distinctive shadow.

The over than 100 stylish sculpted columns give the intimacy of a forest. When the mosque suffered a fire, locals gave the columns of their own homes. Touching.

A fascinating mosque with a maze of hand carved columns -no two are the same. Unfortunately the wood is now being attacked by termites so they could eventually disintegrate.

Khiva does not let you see its beaitues from the outside. The Juma mosuq is the bet example if it. Come and enjoy!

In a city of brick and tile, the wooden interior of the Friday mosque is lovely. You can wander around the pillars as if it were a maze. I would have likes to have stayed a little longer; no that there is anything fantastic to...More
