I live in Leon and go to the beach often, sometimes staying a day or two. The beach is not like going to the beach in California or Florida. Las Penitas offers local experiences with Nica's. There are several hostels, owned by local where one...More

I don't think I will return to Las Peñitas. We spent a week in February of 2016. The town is pretty run down and it is being bought up by foriegners. The beach is nice but it is really hot... everyday was well over 35'C...More

This beach is close to the colonial city of León, Nicaragua. It has many small hostals and casual restaurants and bars established by foreigners that have decided to move here. Surfers have a preference for this beach!

Las Penitas has a lot to offer. 20min from Leon. Lots of restaurants and new Hotels. Good for couples and backpackers. And of course surf!

The beach itself was fine. Not white sand like you might find in Mexico or Thailand, but clean and nice enough. The surf was great (not surfing, but the surf), a lot of fun to play in, and the water temp was perfect: cool and...More

Right near the river if you worry about the Pacific tide and swell. Lovely place to be. Lots of locals and hardly saw a tourist ☺️ Loved it!

My expectations where high. Everybody is talking about las Penitas. It’s a beach village but there is nothing to do. Not a nice town, only the beach and a couple of hostels and a few restaurants. There is nobody there. It all looks sad, depressing...More

This is a good beach to visit while in Leon. Took the chicken bus there and was about 30mins drive for 15 cordobas. Very chilled beach with hostels along the beach front. Great sea for surfing and swimming, surprisingly clear water. Best bit is to...More

This is a good beach that attracts surfers. It can be a little rough for just swimming, and has some rocky areas along it's approx.11/2 k length. The main road through the town of Las Penitas runs the length of the beach. The darkish brown...More

Not the prettiest beach in the world, but it has some nice rock formations for photos. It's safe and has plenty of accomodations and activities nearby

Yes you could get a taxi, and might be more economical if you could share one with others at your hostel or lodging. I don't recall the name of the bus terminal but it was not one of the larger ones. I think it was the... More
