I have lost count of the number of volcanos I scaled, but this was one of my favourites. Weather permitting you can see lava flow and bubble in the crater. One step too much and you're gone. I recommend 'Volcano Day' Tours as the outfitter to book with.

It was an amazing trek!!! The hike is not very difficult and you walk directly to the crater. If you are lucky you can even see the lava. The sunset is beautiful and we also visited a bat cave. It was all very impressing. Strongly recommended.

We took a small tour (8 people) for the twilight hike from Leon. It takes over an a hour by car in rough road to get to the base of the crater. Then another 45-60 minutes hike to get to the crater. You need to be only moderately fit for that. That was almost sunset time and after a short... More

Telica... what a ride for the sunset hike. The road out to Telica is definitely an experience and kudos to the drivers for doing this in the dark. In kms, the drive doesnt seem far but the road... and this is a road with lots of farms and family houses along it. Would love to see what it is like... More

We hiked Telica during the day which was stunning! We took a San Isidro bound chicken bus at around 8:30am from the main bus terminal in Leon and got off at San Jacinto (20-30 minutes; 12 cordobas per person). There is a comedor and a pulperia in San Jacinto in case you need food or water. We walked to the... More

I booked a tour at the last minute. At first, I wanted to go on my own, but I'm happy I did not. The road to get to the volcano is very tricky and it's easy to get lost. It took about 1h driving there from the highway. The hike is easy enough (took us 45 minutes), but tricky at... More

Took a sunset tour up Telica with a group of friends recently. The hike was moderate and took about an hour. We hiked a volcano earlier that day and still had no issues. During the day I'm sure you could make it there with a 4x4 yourself and trek up, but it was going to be dark during our decent... More

I booked a guide for $50. The sunset was amazing and so was standing on the side of the crater. But beforehand I was thinking hard whether I can do this my other means not costing me $50. For anyone who has some experience with mountains, I'd say just go without one. You won't miss out on anything but will... More

Worth the half and a half drive and 40 minute walk. So very surreal peering into the crater of a volcano, and just as eerie when you hear the stories of sacrifice and past eruptions. Also comes with a beautiful sunset and bat cave. Definitely worth it.

The walk up is not that exciting but it's an easy 45 minute one. Really nice view from the top and we had an amazing sunset. It was so much sulfur so we couldn't really see a lot of lava, just a couple of dots way down. It's a nice time to spend an afternoon.
