About
History is preserved at Mill Race Historical Village, a gem of the Northville community. Beginning in 1972, the buildings were moved from other locations in Northville, or reconstructed on site, on land donated by the Ford Motor Company. The Village is home to the circa 1831 Cady Inn, the reproduction Hirsch Blacksmith Shop with a working Smithy on open Sundays and at special events, the 1845 New School Church, the 1851 Greek Revival Hunter House, the 1873 Carpenter Gothic Yerkes Home, a Gazebo built in 1979 by high school students, a circa 1889 Victorian Cottage, the JM Mead General Store, circa 1830-1850, an original Interurban Station, built in the 1890's and of course our beloved circa 1873 Wash Oak School. Imagine your wedding on the Charming Grounds or in the Church of a Historic Village of the 1800's. The Cady Inn is available to rent for private events. The one room school house is available to rent for teachers wanting to take schoolchildren back in time for the day!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I had my wedding at Mill Race, and my experience was amazing! Everyone was so helpful and supportive throughout the whole process, and responded kindly and quickly to any questions and concerns I had, from confusion about paperwork to worries about the weather! The ceremony was beautiful, we were married under the picturesque gazebo. We even received a sweet little gift package from everyone! Thank you, Mill Race, for making my special day even more special.

A beautiful place to go for a short stroll. Consists of 7-8 historic buildimgs moved on site for occasional school day trios, weddings and many parties posing for pictures.

Has a gazebo and a number of benches...grab a book and a coil drink and enjoy the atmosphere.

Adjacent to Ford Field with access to downtown Northville

If you like visiting old buildings and the like, this place is for you, located on downtown Northville's east side. If you don't like visiting old buildings and the like, it's not.

We booked Mill Race for our wedding.

I grew up in Northville attending more events than I can count with my family and with my school. I always loved it as a kid even when I would usually confuse the name of it with Northville Downs. I thought "Mill Race" was the place with the race track.

That's on me, though. The name "Mill Race" is clearly marked on various signs. I'm glad I know better.

And I'm glad I booked my wedding here. My fiancee and I spent years playing Pokemon Go in Northville proper, but every time we played we ended up walking the surroundings here in Mill Race. Month after month, it was perfect.

This was the first place we decided on. Unfortunately, we are not able to keep these plans. Jennifer was an incredible help from the start. Jennifer has been an incredibly gracious person since the plans were taken out of our control.

I cannot say more about Mill Race or the people who run it. I'm grateful for my experience here at so many different times and in so many different ways.

Basically: Mill Race. I recommend it.

Thank you for your kind words Matthew. We love hearing stories from our guests about what the Village means to them and hearing about your special connection through your childhood to the present time! We're sorry you and Brigette are unable to have your ceremony at the Village. We hope you'll consider holding a different event here in the future. You're of course always welcome to join our membership and help us come up with new ideas for community events at the Village! Best to you both for a long and happy marriage! -Jen

We're so glad you enjoyed your visit to Mill Race Village Dan! The Northville Historical Society army of volunteers works hard to maintain the grounds and buildings of the Village. We welcome your support with this review and would love you to visit our website and come back and visit for our events. Many of our events raise funds that allow us to do the work to keep the Village beautiful and to bring programming that supports our mission.

We booked our ceremony to take pace in the historic church (vs on the grounds or in the gazebo) and had pictures taken on the grounds before and after. The property itself is beautifully maintained, and was available to us for 2 hours exclusively for our event. The whole experience was wonderful. Our docent met us and our guests to make sure everything was as we planned, including a key to the lift to allow our musician easy access with her harp. Communication with the Northville Historic Society and their Business Director was prompt and thorough. They even had an 'emergency kit' for us with water, mints, needle and thread, and lovely note.Thank you for giving us such a memorable day!

Thank you for your kind words! Helping couples plan their wedding ceremony at Mill Race Village is truly my pleasure! I will make sure I pass on your kind words about the beauty of the grounds and buildings to the many volunteers who make it all happen. Our docents love helping couples on their wedding day! They never break a sweat while running our exterior elevator! (Why have a ramp when you can have an elevator?!). Thank you for choosing to have your wedding ceremony at Mill Race Village! We wish you a long and happy marriage! We hope you will consider becoming a member and of course come back to visit us at one of the events we hold throughout the year. Check our website for details and opportunities!

By the way, our mama duck who was nesting in early summer under our main entrance sign successfully protected her chicks from any harm. Imagine how many people strolled past her unaware she was nesting?
