For only a buck you can climb the 170 steps to the top of Castle Rock. It's steep in places but worth the climb. Be careful some of the handrails are a little loose. Gorgeous view!!

I have driven past Castle Rock countless times, but had never been there until my last time driving through the UP. I was expecting an overpriced tourist trap, and was surprised to find out it wasn't. The entrance fee was only $1 per person! There's...More

We had a great time visiting Paul Bunyan and hiking up the hill. Be advised, it's a pretty long, steep climb up concrete stairs. I was winded by the time we got to the top. The kids made it fine. The view is gorgeous though,...More

The region around St. Ignace, Michigan, has a variety of seastacks that pop up in odd places - such as land. Castle Rock isn't right in the water, but it is located back on shore a bit. The result is that when someone climbs it,...More

A pretty hefty walk up...but worth it! Would be tough if the steps were wet, and/or if you have difficulty climbing...

There are many stairs to climb. It was a really nice view of the area. after you climb you get something awarding you for climbing.

This is a climb up scary old "stairs", to an old rusty metal ramp, that takes you to a concrete slab on top of Castle Rock. I don't mind heights, but I was genuinely uneasy about standing on that concrete slab. There is a crack...More

We were expecting to pay more since it was a touristy thing to do so we were glad to see it wS only a dollar. The steps are a little rough but you can stop along the way-the views were worth it. The gift shop...More

The climb was tough for most of us. There are rest stops along the way. The view was nice mostly freeway and a little of Mackinaw island but not the bridge. We were disappointed that the gift shop didn't have any Paul Bunyan with babe...More

It is about 200 steps to the top but well worth it. Not a easy climb but I would not miss it if you are up in the area. It is only $1.00 to climb so why not.

No there is not. However in the town of Saint Ignace you will probably find somewhere along the water a place to stop and have a picnic. very small town

You can see the top of the bridge towers, not the entire bridge.

Though I don't know for sure, I would say no only because you have to walk through the gift shop to access Castle Rock itself. I'd give them a call to be sure #906-643-8268.
