Good ideas often start over beer. Always looking to take a good thing too far, we sat down over a beer (or two) and decided that beer itself was a good idea. Of course, not just some easy-drinking, institutional prole beer, but stuff like the beers we'd had at great bars. In short, we wanted beer with flavor. Complexity. Character. Intensity. Not words found in the mass-market lexicon.

So with a banjo burner, a bunch of industrial-sized kitchen pots and as many buckets as we could find, we jumped in feet first. Once a week, every week. This led to brewing twice a week and handing out bottle after bottle to everyone we knew. Now, several years later and with a 15 bbl version of our banjo burner and kitchen pots for a brewhouse, we're befuddling the beer judges and converting the masses. One pint at a time.

Located in the small lakeside town of Sawyer, MI, Greenbush crafts beers with names like Anger, Closure, Mammoth and Doomslayer-and with nothing under 6% ABV, the monikers are indicative of the styles. The brewery serves beer and a full menu out of its Sawyer taproom seven days a week and currently distributes to bars, restaurants and retailers throughout the state of Michigan, in metro Chicago and Northern Indiana.

Soooo Good!

Great atmosphere. GREAT food! Great beer. Fast, friendly service. We did have to wait for a table, but it was well worth it!

Road trip! I drove to Greenbush from Chicago (via 3 Floyds in Munster IN) for a beer...or three. The Tractor (cream ale and not typically my style), 1825 (Belgian strong), Sunspot (hefe), and Dunegras IPA (American IPA) were all great. Brother Benjamin (DIPA) was amazing. The staff was pleasant, and I hear the food is wonderful, too. I highly recommend... More

Two girlfriends and I took the Suncoast Trolley from St. Joseph to Greenbush Brewing Company. It was extremely crowded upon arrival and we were told it would be a 50 minute wait for a table. We ended up waiting a quick 10 minutes before being seated. Be aware you are only able to order drinks from one part of the... More

I have gone on many of the major brewery tours but this was my 1st craft beer tour. Pete and Beach were some of the best tour givers out there. It was a great experience to hear about how they make their beer from the guys that actually do it. They were funny and happy to answer all of our... More

Great beers, killer wings and good pizza! I like how they even allow you to refill growlers from other breweries. Some places are jerks and only allow growler refills from their own brewery. The inside is a bit too small, probably because this place is becoming more and more popular. I figured going on a Sunday late afternoon would be... More

Fine craft beers, very good food, crowds, and good merchandise. This is a great success story for a local business venture.

We were there around noon and they were very busy. We were waited on fairly quickly and the food arrived fairly soon. We both had sandwiches with a choice of several sides. The sandwiches were very good and very thick. Good place for lunch.

Come for the handcrafted beer. Stay for the sandwiches. If you do that, you will be coming back a lot for lunch because the food is creative, tasty, interesting, and great.

Beer is okay - very hoppy with unique tastes - some good/some bad, depending on your taste. Prefer other breweries in Berrien Co. Food is good. Atmosphere is great for lunch during the week, energetic and crowded on weekends. Overall not a bad place in Sawyer to frequent from time to time.

Drink with the staff! Everybody drinks at Greenbush! Good selection of swag and music. I am a fan! My favorite beer was Anger & Brother Benjamin.
