Fascinating 100plus year old sawmill. Enthusiastic owner who loves to demonstrate it and talk about it. No charge, donation invited. The grain mill, to which the road signs mostly refer, appears closed, but don't give up, continue up the same road for the sawmill.

The water mill was closed, but the saw mill was brilliant. The owner was happy to show it working, cutting wood. Definitely worth a visit if you're married to a technophile.

Good place to visit so you can see "how it was in the old days" (and still is, since it is still used). Place appropriate to take children. It's about 40 minute drive from Funchal and pretty close to Casa de Palha (very nice restaurant...More

This is an excellent place to visit for culture, history and general interest. The watermill is the last one fully working in Madeira and is a fascinating little place where you can visit for free! It is 300 years old!! Inside you can see corn...More
