We happen to be there when a large commercial ship was entering. It was interesting to see how the bridge worked.

We never tire of watching this bridge in action. Our hotel even posted a daily gazette with the eta of 1000 foot freighters passing through to help plan your day. This is a must see if you’re anywhere on the North Shore.

It is so educational to watch the ship come and go through the lift bridge. The museum at the bridge is very interesting also.

The aerial bridge was built in the early 1900's and is still a very unique piece of technology. The entire roadway is lifted up to allow boats to pass through. This happens all day and night in Duluth and it is definitely worth waiting for...More

My children loved it ! We were all impressed. I recommend taking a tour on a boat. The bridge is fascinating. Just to see people get bridged and have to wait for the huge vessels to go through

It’s pretty cool to watch go up and down. Walking on the bridge gives you a good look at the lighthouse.

The locals scoff at the tourists for hanging out here, but it really is fascinating for those of us who don't see it on a daily basis, to see what it takes to maneuver a 1,000ft barge through a narrow channel. We're normally outdoorsy types,...More

There are boat tours of the harbor and lake-we've taken the Vista Fleet tours and found them interesting. You can fish from shore along the lake or harbor. Brighton Beach at the north end of town is great for picnics... More
