Visited in Mid-August with my husband. Busy place, with plenty of people and a very cute but shirt boardwalk area.

My family had a great time here. The beauty was beyond worth the drive. We explored, trails, fell into the waters, skipped rocks and had a phenomenal day.

Go visitor center first, crowd will leave headwaters later in day. Bring your swimsuits and definitely rent bikes to tour the park!

The headwaters are a must see! We felt it had been dug out to be larger since visiting as kids. Many large rocks to cross the start of the river. Beautiful wetlands.

It's just water going down a little stream from a lake, but just think about it........this is the start of something grand......the Mississippi. Could be a nice quite spot to relax, but plan your trip around school field trips if you can. We got caught in between two of them and they were loud. I would hate to see this... More

Worth the trip. Having the chance to walk across the Midsissippi River is awesome. You can wade in and cross or you can cross over the rocks to stay dry. Trails are very nice as well.

We recently visited Itasca State Park and the Mississippi Headwaters in Minnesota! It was an awesome experience. I have lived on the MS River almost all my life in LA and MS where the river is a mile wide. Being able to walk across it in ankle deep clear water is humbling! The park appears to be nice and well... More

The headwaters in Itasca state park is the best part of the park as far as we are concerned. Nice spill way.

This was the first visit with our sons to the headwaters. They thoroughly enjoyed playing in the Mississippi and crossing the rocks. Pack a change of clothes including underwear or come in swimsuits if they want to enjoy the water. There is a great area to walk "down" the Mississippi through the water if you are prepared to get wet.... More
