This is an interesting castle (fortified manor house) with plenty of history behind it. The castle site is run by English heritage and best of all access is free and it’s pretty much open during all daylight hours. Parking around the village is plentiful. There...More

The interpretation boards are really interesting - do take time to walk around this delightful English Heritage property - free to visit! Once the home of the Percy family from Northumberland - and must have shared some secrets of English history here.

The ruins are lovely and set in peaceful grounds where you can stay and have a picnic. Glad we went and ticked this one off our English Heritage to do list. It is free to walk around.

Interesting little gem hidden away in Spofforth village just north of Wetherby. Not much to see as it's a ruin, but there are information boards, and English Heritage, who own the site, have more detail on their website

Spofforth Castle is situated in a lovely village. It is next to the village green and there is some information about the design and history of the building. Although a ruin it is on different levels and it is interesting to explore. It doesn't take...More

Uniquely built into the side of a rocky outcrop, it fore dates modern planning by around 800 years. The ground floor was built into the side of the hill, and when that became too small they built a second floor, on top of the first...More

Spent a little while exploring this lovely spot. Full of history and plenty of space to explore. A little uneven under foot but as long as you watch where you are going it is safe enough for most visitors.

Nearest coffee shops are in Wetherby about 3 to 4 miles. Nice town with river running through. Pub 1/4 mile from ruins, toward Wetherby.
