We rented tubes and a canoe here for Labor Day weekend float trip down the Crow Wing river. They also rent kayaks and tubes to put your cooler in. Float trip is about 2 hours. They will drop you off at the top, you can call to be picked up at the bottom or even walk back (probably about 1/4 mile). Prices were great, we got picked up at the bottom right away. River is very pretty and clean. No rapids, slow moving the entire way - between 2 feet and 10 feet deep along the way. Also relatively quiet, few other groups we saw were families.

We worked with Huntersville Canoe Outfitters for a family reunion float down the Crow Wing River. At $8 per tube, the price was right. The operator loaded as many of our 27 participants in her pickup (front and box) and hauled us to the put-in point and went back for the rest of us. It wasn't far from the outfitters to the put-in but some people might be uncomfortable riding in the back of the pickup. For us, it was part of the fun. Tubes were all fine and outfitter provided straps so we could tie onto each other. The float took about 3 lazy hours. We pulled out the tubes and stacked them. Most of our group walked back to the outfitters while a couple of us stayed with the tubes and then rode back. It was a fun afternoon on the river.

The Crow Wing River is one of the most scenic rivers in the U.S. Dorothy, owner of Huntersville Canoe Outfitters is by far the BEST outfitter ever! Dorothy's father, Irvin Funk, was one of the most instrumental people who fought in the 1960's to keep the Crow Wing preserved as a wild and scenic river! Dorothy has been in the outfitting business for over forty years and will help customers custom plan trips on the river ranging from a few hours to three days. All Dorothy's equipment is top notch and since she's spent most of her life living along the river, her knowledge of the Crow Wing is outstanding. The scenery is beautiful and the fishing is great. The river has a number of sandy beaches and there are several great picnic spots and camping areas long the river, too. The river is conveniently located in north central Minnesota, not too far from the Twin Cities, Fargo, ND, and Duluth. It's within minutes of Itasca State Park, the source of the Mississippi River. Dorothy will do anything she can to insure that a trip on the Crow Wing will be the highlight of your Minnesota vacation!
