You can see the lock from the bridge over the river going from Minneapolis to St. Paul. There is access to it beneath the bridge. There is a little island (most of the time) where fisherfolk gather to toss out a line.

While on the Twin Cities Trolley I took excellent photos of this fine example of riverway engineering from the Ford Parkway Bridge (aka Intercity Bridge). Of course, you can't stop on the bridge, so that's not what you'd call a perfect vantage point.

The Corps of Engineers has done us taxpayers a service by making this site available for viewing. It's a low-excitement but interesting opportunity to learn a few things and get some nice views of the Mississippi River. Pure happenstance brought us there, and we (one...More

To prevent Eurasian Watermilfoil from traveling upriver, the locks have been permanently closed. The visitor center has been closed since shortly after 9/11. It's still an engineering marvel. It's probably never been economically justified, and may be torn down so the river can run free.

We strolled by and took a look. Its pretty cool. You can really see the forces of the river and the amount of water passing through.

We came to tour for an art installation at the locks. It was in the evening (8pm). The installation was a light show that was tied to the rise and fall of the locks over its 50 year history. It was very interesting. The locks...More

Really not much to see here. The falls area of the river and viaduct are all attractive. The lock and dam is pretty average

we went up to see this from the park near Minnehaha Falls. It was very hard to see what was going on. Not sure how we would have gotten down to the actual dam and lock. We did get to see the lock work
