About
Peninsula Peljesac, the oasis of black wines, has been visited by many tourists and lovers of good drops in recent years. Walking along the Peljesac landscapes, the unavoidable destinations are the vineyards, taverns and wineries that are all connected to each other accidentally or intentionally. However, one of them is distinguished by its quality, knowledge and perseverance. From a small wine cellar visited by a small number of tourists, Winery MATUSKO in Potomja is transformed into one of the largest and most famous destination of winemakers from all over the world where Wine expert Mato Violic Matusko, presents and offers top quality autonomous wines from the Peljesac region and the Dubrovnik-Neretva County. At the winery Matusko there are currently thirteen wine labels, six of which are quality, one sparkling wine, one archive and five top wines. Visiting this winery remains an everlasting experience that will be restored again with each glass of Matusko wine.

This part of Croatia, the Peljesac peninsula, is definately the best area for wine lovers. Unfortunately, Matusko failed to meet our expectation as we had just did 2 other winery where we had a much better experience. First of all, at Matusko, we kinda felt like we were not welcome in here as the two hosts were busy with 2 groups (5-6 people each) and they acted like we were disturbing them more than seeing us as potential customers. Also, the 2 other places we went to didn't charge anything for the wine tasting while Matusko does. Now, I would understand they charge because they are probably producing and exporting more than the other two, however the wine was much better at their competition... I had the impression that we got screwed by having to paid for something lesser quality. I sincerely believe you can have a better experience at different winery close by Matusko.

Unfriendly staff, very rigid, not possible to taste red wines only, even if you are ready to pay, you have then to order a full glass. Very arrogant attitude „we are the best in Croatia“. We found their Dingac not so special, my friends enjoyed their Rose wine though. We would have probably tasted other red wines if they had been more friendly, more flexible and less arrogant. Another issue: they take only cash... Fortunately there are other excellent wine producers in the region with a more friendly attitude and some do accept the credit card.

The Matusko winery is a short drive away from the towns of Orebić and Korčula in iteresting wine region with a Dingač tunel nearby.
The place is easy to find via signposts.
The family Matusko are friendly and informative. The barrique wine cellar is large and with character. They offer wine tastings and have a large selection of wine made from few distinct places in Peljesac.
Bring cash with you.

We called into the winery today and we’re greeted by very friendly and helpful staff. The lady that dealt with us spoke wonderful English and after buying some bottles of wine (which were VERY good) asked if we would like to look around. She showed us all around and answered all our questions. Really fabulous.

Winery ok. We bought 15 bottles. We wanted to try one more wine, but the lady told us to pay for it... even though she poured a few milliliters for testing. Really.
That's a shame, I've never encountered anything like that. There are many wineries around, and we'd like to thank Matusko.

A visit of this winery is a must for all wine enthusiasts that plan to be in this part of Croatia.
The cellar is impressive, the staff is friendly and accommodating and the wine tasting alone is worth the trip. You will discover wines, and learn about their grapes, that are unique in character and wonderfully paired with the meat and cheese platters that you can order to accompany.
Be sure to taste the Royal Dingač with a piece of dark chocolate. A first for me and one that I will not forget.
We stayed in Dingač-Borak and ate at the seaside restaurant every night during our stay. This is surely a hidden gem, as it is off the beaten path, but every bit worth the detour.

Lovely wineyard. We had a guided tour around the cellar with lots of interesting information. After that we tasted some of the wines - they were absolutely amazing.

Please visit the wineyard! Also really nice staff!

As a part of my 3 wineries tasting experience , I regularly visit Matusko winery with guests as it is one of the best wineries in Croatia. Family owned with tradition in wine making and incredible wine cellar.
I have to complement Mariana for her wine knowledge and presentation. I was most impressed.
