When you see Sugar Loaf, you know that you have arrived in Winona, Minnesota. Sugar Loaf are natural bluffs which overlook Lake Winona and the town. It is nice easy hike for families and not overly exerting.

I work on the American Queen steamboat and we stopped in Winona today so I took a crew bicycle and made my way across the beautiful town and lake to arrive at the little brown maintenance building on the backside of Sugar Loaf. Around the back of the building is a city water tank on around that is what appears... More

From way out of town you suddenly see this oddly-shaped lump of rock sticking out above the trees on the bluff above the town. It's a real local landmark - well worth a photo or two.

I spent some time in Winona and asked many people how to get there and nobody knows. There is rumor about two traces on the back of the hill, but there is "Private property" sigh and no parking at all. I can't reach it, there is no attraction. That simple for me.

Short steep hike but the view was worth it. Park by brown utility building and hike around it to access trail. As you go around fence to the right don't be fooled by wash out as a trail. Go 10-15 yards farther to actual trail.

Somewhat easy hike with a beautiful view of all of Winona, the mississippi river, and even past the river into Wisconsin. Even more beautiful at night to see all the lights of the town. Very relaxing and calming.

Interesting and historical natural landmark. Can be seen for miles. Apparently there's no way to get to it , so that was a bit disappointing. Must be admired from afar. Try Garvin Heights a bit up 61.

The hike up is not technical but it is up the hill a couple hundred feet. The view is nice of the eastern edge of Winona and the lake.
