In Kyiv region (there is bus going from subway Vydubychi, 45 min) there is a reconstruction of the capital Kievan Rus - Ancient Kiev of V-XIII centuries in its real scale 1:1 taking into considaration modern knowlleges. It's a really fanstastic place, because I hadn't seen anywhere such reconstruction of all medieval city.
Every weekends there are different events, festivals, international championships on medieval battles, horsebackarchery etc. Also there are hotel, hostel, camping and beautiful medieval rooms for rent. There is ukrainian and medievak cuisine in restorant od viking style. There are many master-classes and about 30 horses, 20 historical breeds: shyre, brabants, arabian horse, quarter-horse, persheron etc.
If you want to have nice day, to know who are ukrainians and how was treir history - you should visit Kyevan Rus Park. Ticket for adult is 150 uah, about 6 USD.

I went to the Kievan Rus park in August of 2015. I had no idea of what to expect. I was impressed as hell. I met the Directors of the site, launched trebuchets, threw spears, fired bows... and walked the entire site. Saw amazing feats of horsemanship... These riders would win just about any rodeo competition in North America with about 10 minutes training. Well very thought out and done. When it is completely finished... I want to live there!!

As I said on my title this place should be on your must do list.
I live in the UK and we have real castles bit this place is huge on scale and has atmosphere. That first moment when you walk through the gates and are met with friendly people all in medieval dress and welcoming us with bread in a traditional way. Once inside the size of the place hits you. There is loads to do but I will talk about what I did as I didn't have time to do everything as there is so much. If you go on an event day they are really well run so check there web site. We went on a horse day so they would ride around the arena. We even got to go in the arena and meet the horses after the show so that was special. Another highlight was as we where walking around they where firing a trebuchet as well as a balista. We had ago and it was amazing to do things that just wouldn't happen in the UK. I could ramble on for hours but to keep it short there is something for everyone we got the bus they put on so it was no problem getting there on a weekend. If i am in Kiev I would definitely go again.

Kievan Rus is an impressive and ambitious plan to rebuild the medieval city of Kiev. Once it is finished I'm sure it will be great. For the time being, I was not impressed though.
The part that they currently built is beautiful. Watchtowers, defence walls, houses and courtyards. It's small but well done and nice to have a stroll for about half an hour. There are several tiny exhibitions to see. After that....well....that's it.
We were there on what seemed to be a busy Saturday, but surprisingly enough it felt like a lot of venues had their doors closed. Food was mediocre at best. Activities were mostly aimed at kids. There was also a show with knights and horses which basically consisted of a dressed up dude endlessly shouting in a microphone before someone would come out and ride around on his horse for a bit. Not speaking Ukranian does not really help, here.
The buildings and costumes are very nice and have great attention to detail. I'm sure it has great potential. But as it stands right now, the whole place feels a but unfinished. After about two hours we saw enough and wanted to get back. Too bad, since the trip there with the special shuttle bus was quite a long and uncomfortable ride. We were supposed to get the same shuttle back around noon, but were told it would not drive back to Kiev before 4pm.
Being trapped in the Middle Ages was never this uneventful.

Spent a whole day in the Kievan Rus Park. As a Malaysian American tourist in Ukraine, I found this park very amusing. I have never been or even seen a medieval park like this before. A very amazing time with many variety of events such as trebuchet firing demonstration, horse back riding, knife/axe/pike throwing, archery, ziplining, children sword fighting, and great food. Additionally, riding the hot air balloon (need to make advance reservation), with my significant other was a perfect way to end the evening. Really look forward for additional ancient buildings to be constructed. Hope to come back some day. Thank you to Nataliia, the coordinator, for suggesting the plan and make our day the best day ever.

The park located quite far from Kyiv and that is why for us it took years to get there although they offer a shuttle service. What made us finally come there was an international horse trick art festival “Centaurs”. Park hosts it every year at the end of April. My sons are studying horse riding, so that was our topic. To my surprise what I saw in the park was much better than I expected. Re-constructed wooden walls and buildings, hill forts, staff in costumes… All of these bring you to an Ancient Rus. At least in your imagination.
The park holds many evens through the year, especially on holidays, so you may find something interesting for you. There are games for children and adults, different master-classes, horse riding and archery, souvenirs and etc. There are café and restaurant where you may still your hunger.
