The Old State Capitol building has been lovingly restored and now houses an excellent Museum of Mississippi History. The Senate and House Chambers have been restored to their late 1800's appearance and looked great, with some interesting video and audio narration. Supreme Court and Governors Office also interesting, Mississippi Hall of Fame display, and excellent information on state history. The... More

The primary focus of the museum is the building itself, which is somewhat interesting. Displays cover various aspects of the buildings history and there are recorded push button talks available to augment the displays and written plaques.

The old statehouse has been quite nicely refurbished. The Greek Revival building is grand without being ostentatious. The historical and interactive displays are informative and entertaining. We have a much better feel for the history of the state after this visit.

I found this museum huge informative and interesting, there is a lot to read and a lot of historical information so it may not be so accessible for young children, but I love history, culture and politics, so if you're into these things, you'll really enjoy it. Plus the building is really beautiful!

This served as the capitol from1839-1903. It is an absolute Greek Revival masterpiece! Admission is free & you can't beat that. This is the oldest building in Jackson & you can explore all throughout while learning about the history. The dome is made of copper. The rotunda is breathtaking.

Lots of history in one place that one can explore as quick - or as slow - as one wants to. The lady at the reception was very helpful. The staircase is just wonderful.

We were there on a very quiet day in September. The ladies at the front desk are really friendly and nice and take alll their time to talk to you, not only about the museum, but also the new Capitol building, the state and the area in general. The building itself is nice and there is quite e bit of... More

The old capitol museum provides visitors with a glimpse of Mississippi's rich history. The curved staircase to the upper chambers lead visitors to several chambers where life-size sculptures seem frozen in time debating legal matters of the day.
