After a week or so of visiting capitols, museums and grand old structures, a visit to Oaks House gave us an opportunity to better understand how a middle class family would have lived in the antebellum south. The home and garden tour were very nominally priced, the introductory video was helpful, and the information provided by the tour guide was... More

But I was walking and knew the address. The front porch had just been painted so the docent told me..he did not put the flags out. It is not expensive to go in, but since I am in AAA, I got a 10% discount. The tour starts with a short film which tells you how the city of Jackson started... More

What a great reminder of old time Jackson. We are fortunate that the Oaks house has been preserved for more than 150 years. It is a treasure for our citizens.

Docent was very gracious and provided a wonderful tour of the house and it's grounds. Lots of stories about the 3 generations of of the Boyd family who had lived in the house from the time it was built in 1853 until 1960.

Our docent was very sweet and we loved talking to her. There is not much in there, but what they do have is interesting.

so much of the house's contents were given away and so many unknowns about how the rooms were used, but the guide and the film really help
