Very rare and unique place to visit, one of the World Heriage sites in Finland. You can live 60 years back the time, when paper and board was fabricated in this country. Lots of knowledge about papermaking history. You cannot understand the atmosphere before you really feel it!

Full of Finnish history, calm environment with beautiful old buildings from late 19th century. A lovely place for especially Finns to visit and hear more about their country's micro history.

This would absolutely get 5 stars if they worked a tiny bit harder to accommodate non-Suomi speaking guests. On their website they advertise tours in Russian, German or English if arranged in advance. However even with 5 days notice and total flexibility of any tour time on a Tuesday or Wed, they replied to my email request to say an... More

Hello, I'm really sorry to hear, we haven't been able to offer a tour in english for you. We usually do have an english speaking guide every day - especially when booked in advance. There were few days in September we weren't able to offer tours in other languages due to temporary lack of staff. More

There is not so many UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Finland and Verla (near Kouvola area and about 120 km from Helsinki) is one of them. When you'll come to museum area it feels like you've come to another time - and even more when you start the guided tour inside the mill. Everything is like it was when the... More

I visited Verla for the first time and took a guided tour. It took about an hour and I enjoyed to hear about the history of the old cardboard factory. The machines and he work areas were preserved well. The park and surroundings are nice.

We visited the mill during the middle age fair that was arranged at Verla, the entrance fee included the tour. The tour itself was for one hour and even though not carriage accesible, also ok for smaller kids. The mill was absolutely beautiful with interesting history. Highly recommend this place!

Don't let the name fool you, even if it's "just" a board mill museum it is very interesting for all from children to oldies. You must take a guided tour to get inside and see factory premises. Tour starts with video that tells about factory and how it was working. Video is followed by very interesting guided tour through the... More

We visited this village mill a few days ago. It is located more than one hour away from Helsinki, but was worth the trip. The 19th century factory made a kind of board used in specialty boxes and school materials by crushing wood into a mixture that could be made into boards. The amazing part is that the factory continue... More

This is an Unesco heritage site because it is still (almost) in the same condition at the last day of its operation. You should take the guided tour, you get so much good information during the 1-hour tour. The tours are organized every 30 minutes. Almost all of the tours are in Finnish but there is a 10min film before... More

The Verla Mill Museum is situated by the Verlankoski rapids in Valkeala, about 30 kilometers from the city centre of Kouvola. The very first Verla mill was opened in 1872 but it was destroyed in a fire. The present decorative redbrick buildings date from the 1890's. They have been a museum since 1972. The main Verla product was white board... More
