Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We booked the Christmas lunch "special" - we've visited here before but always had the cheese/meat boards.
Really nice choice, well cooked, well presented. Nicely decorated, both central tree and individual tables.
Friendly, helpful staff.
(There was an error on one of the meals - 100% our fault - without question they redid the whole main course - great service).
In terms of wine the oaked Chardonnay is excellent (and in terms of restaurant prices not expensive).

We were given a voucher for a wine tasting with cheese and charcuterie last Christmas and had to use it - we went today and what a great; surprise we had. Amazing wines in a beautiful vineyard. Learnt a lot from the sommelier, Matt, who was very knowledgeable and friendly. A great experience and we highly recommend the wines. 👍👍👍

Lovely place to go for a breakfast and look over the vineyard and estuary.
The staff were helpful and the setting is idyllic.

Second time trying here… don’t bother!!
Ordered the Focaccia bread with Camembert - listed as tear and share on the menu. We thought they were joking when they served with a serrated knife to cut into it as it was so hard. An offence to Italians!
Mussels were chewy and discoloured, hard to get white wine and garlic sauce wrong but they managed it!
The garlic chilli prawns were okay but only four given costing £7!!
Humus and veg alright, bread that came with was pretty stale round the edge.
A very disappointing meal. When the waitress came over to see if we enjoyed, we explained the mussels were chewy - her response “ I don’t eat them, so I wouldn’t know”. When we explain the bread was hard she said “oh I’ll let the chef know” and then never came back to the table.
Had to go to the til to pay as were avoided, manager came over - polite but useless.. when explained the food was awful he said the car park is doing okay though(there was 5 cars parked there). The wine is nice, just save yourself the extortionate prices for below par food. Was given half price for the Camembert and focaccia, and didn’t pay for the mussels because we refused. Maybe need a lesson in hospitality.

We are sorry you felt the need to write this review. In hind sight, when you walked in, we felt that you were looking for a reason to complain.
To set the record straight the owners had a chat with you and played a waving game with your baby.
We feel your comments about the staff, where unjust and out of context. we are proud of our qualified chef and all our staff.
Your comments about the food are difficult to understand, as the bread was fresh, and the gentleman had a long discussion about the mussels, saying they where out of season, then ordered them, which was surprising, however it would appear so that you could then complain.

We had booked a silver wine tasting with Matt who was brilliant. Very knowledgeable informative and interesting. I couldn’t drink so he matched non alcoholic beverages with my friends wine tasting
We then had tapas which was all delicious followed by an amble round the vineyard
Oh yes and bought a bottle of the delicious Chardonnay

Blame us for trying this place again after having been there once before and it being disapointing. But it was a sunny weekend so we booked to take friends.
I hadnt planned on writing a review on here because I had already done one on the Google reviews. But after the Manager wrote this reply back to it I thought I would! So this was the response...."Disappointing you were rude to our staff, other guests seated near you, asked to be moved elsewhere, The specials board included fish and chips and the Crouch Ridge burger."
Rude? What had we done wrong as paying customers (who incidentally were NOT shown a specials board hence having us an our guests having to have a sandwich as a main meal!!!)..........we complained that two of our £11 sandwiches had just one slice of ham in them....just enough ham to cover half of the bread!!! And the answer we got back from the waiter was that they had run out of ham (so instead of simply explaining this before ordering, they simply tried to fob us off with a load of pickle and get away with it). But the waiters solutions tops the 'chefs' work...he suggested we stick some bacon in the rest of the hamless and pickle sandwich.
Right now you are probably imagining what an £11 sandwich looks like. Big chunky bread (yes), lots of filling (no), nice quantity of sides (nope...few crumbled up crisps and small spoonful of packet coleslaw)! :)
At one point when we asked if we could just have a ham and salad sandwich rather than the 'ploughmans' which is ham, salad and cheese...we were told "no....you can only order whats on the menu'. We suggested they just take out the cheese and add more ham....but this request was met with a quizzical expression before being finally cleared with someone of higher standing! :)
The previous year we were served stale bread with cold over microwaved mussels from a packet that had to be returned to be replaced with a 'Sunday Roast' which seemed to have slices of beef that had come straight from a packet rather than from a roasted joint.....
And again, like the poor food, the service was terrible. They seem to always be training or employing very young untrained staff and not enough of them....so you are continually having to wave or gesture to grab someone attention.
So Ill stand by my experience..... if you are happy with lovely views, poor service and poor food...then this is certainly the place of choice :)

I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy your food, Our response remains the same, you were very rude to the staff, other guests asked to be moved away from you, we had hot food on the menu; we did our best to resolve your complaint and when you left you appeared to be happy

My daughter bought me the anniversary package (we like our food & wine) for my birthday, she later upgraded, so we had a sommelier talk us through the wines we were tasting…. I have to say, hands down, Matt was fantastic… he was amazing, chatted on our level, laughed and joked with us, as well as keeping professional… he 100% made our day… alongside the food, and of course the wine… we will definitely be back for more.

A relaxed sparkling afternoon tea in a lovely setting, looking across the vines into the countryside.
The bubbles were nice as was the traditional afternoon tea. The gluten free variant however was a disappointment (no savoury, scone and only one cakes). I shared my feedback with management and hope they take on board my comments -either charge a lower price for the gluten free version or manage expectations that they can’t offer the same experience for those who have gluten free diets (I booked 2 months in advance!)
It would certainly return but not for afternoon tea where dietary requirements needed to be considered.

This is a beautiful spot and had been recommended by one member of our 6 person party who had come for lunch a few weeks before. We came for a brief visit, on our way from Hyde Hall, ordering tea for some and wine for others but despite the large advertisement outside saying ‘coffee and cake’, we were told there was no cake available! Totally understand there being limited choice on a busy Saturday afternoon and that this is primarily a vineyard restaurant not a cafe, but afternoon tea was being served so how hard can it be?! Don’t advertise it if you can’t offer anything. We will return as the other food looked lovely so we hope to write another 5* review.
