This is our second visit to this historical home We enjoyed the Victorian style mansion with all of its decorations. Before visiting go on line and read about the house at phelpshouse.org. This will give you a better understanding before taking the tour.

Iv'e been told benevolent ghosts roam this house and are prone to turning off lights, footsteps on stairs, and light breezes. At any rate, it's a grand example of period architecture on a street full of pretty old ladies of the 1880s. Students wishing to see original wall papers from the early days of the craft, carved wood work, local stone masonry, and other features would do well to visit. What a fabulous, intact, loved and cared for historic house. The tour is great and Carthage Preservation, the owners, are to be commended for saving this cultural treasure.

Attempted to visit, however even though the Phelps House was scheduled to be open it was not. Had planned this trip for months and looked forward to this. When we arrived was told by an art instructor it was going open afew minutes late. After over an hour, called event coordinator and was told the same thing. When informed it was not open she advised that someone would be there after lunch and asked if we had looked in the windows. As we were not going to be there for another 1 1/2 to two hours left town without getting to go into the house. Very disappointing.…
