The gardens are very nice. Would have been nicer in the summer, duh. The roses were still blooming. It would be nice to have sighnes that tell which garden is what.

Shelter Gardens is a five-acre private park owned by Shelter Insurance. I walk there three days a week and it is perfect. As the seasons change so do the plantings. Spring brings the tulips, summer the cone flowers and fall the mums. In between, there are plantings of dozens of flowers. The Gardens are perfectly maintained and the sidewalks are always clear of fallen leaves, etc. The trees and shrubs are labled as in a botanical garden. This is a very special place in Columbia and a wonderful place to visit during Spring, Summer and Fall. A perfect place to enjoy the green calm of nature.

Lovely botanical garden with a relocated one-room school house. Paved 2-lane paths. Entire area fenced by 6 foot chain link fence which is green and blends well with foliage. Free family concerts during summer. Bring your own chair. Ample free parking immediately adjacent.

Shelter Gardens is a pleasant garden with a variety of plants. Very well signposted. We visited today, early November. Certainly April on would feature plenty of flowers. Nice to stroll around. The one room school house is a replica of the one in which the Missouri Farmers Association was founded in very early 1900’s. The MFA was the predecessor to Shelter.
