Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a lovely stop. The fortress village sits atop a hill with amazing views. There are little shops and cafes just outside the castle. (I even picked up two very reasonable bottles of wine in one of shops for our evening's refreshment.) Just below the village is Alqueva Lake--the largest manmade (artificial) lake in Europe. It was a very pleasant afternoon

We went to visit the castle of Monsaraz about 60 km from Evora. A beautiful experience as it offers an exceptional point of view over the entire region, especially the largest artificial lake in Europe which runs along the entire plain below. The castle is still well preserved with houses and small restaurants in between.

The Castle is located on the Monsaraz hill, in the district of Évora.
It is a medieval castle with military architecture.
Upon entering you find the little town, with its white painted houses, it is a town suspended in time.
The Templars walked through those places; is awesome.
It's worth a visit!!

One of my favorite stops of the holiday, we stayed for two nights which was worth it. Make sure you wake up to watch the sunrise on the walls of the castle while hot air balloons glide by. Head to Corval early morning to buy beautiful ceramics only found in this region and watch pots being thrown. Head to Praia Fluvial de Monsaraz for the afternoon to swim and lie by the lake. Great restaurants with a variety of foods in the town.

A very well-kept small town with two main streets that leave the castle.
The castle is freely visited. It has a rounded central area, an old parade ground, with stone steps, which is now sometimes used as a bullring.
The views from the towers reach the entire surrounding area, perfect for monitoring the enemy (who would surely come from within Spain). On this day, after the heavy rains, the Guadiana was falling, flooding the banks.
The streets of the towns on this cold Monday were practically empty and most of the businesses closed. The mother church under construction.
The town is worth a visit. So more tourist season will surely have more atmosphere.

Visiting Monsaraz with the girls was a fantastic experience, being able to pull a Uau to a 2-year-old child when she contemplates the landscape was fantastic.
Both children loved visiting and exploring the castle and streets of Monsaraz!
No matter how often you visit us, we don't get tired of the landscape

One of the nicest Castelo in Portugal.
This time I visited with a group of mine (I am a tour guide from Israel) and we had a lovely local guide - Ju Maria Gamado (highly recommended for the region). the structure is amazing and the views are striking beautiful.

Very small town, on the top of a hill, with several free parking spots right at the entrance, walking from the parking lot to the castle of about 10 minutes. The castle itself is not large, it has a few stairs to access the towers and for those who have difficulty with locomotion this can be a problem. Finally, a beautiful view of the city and a sense of inner peace. The whole tour can be done very quietly in 1 or 2 hours.

Do you want to enjoy an amazing portuguese landscape? If yes, you have to know this peaceful place. Incredible environment, great (hot) weather and food. Great people and lots of things to do including monuments to visit, pools to swim and foods to taste. With no tickets for entry you can visit a great historical place.

One of the most beautiful castles in Portugal (and there are many to compare). Very impressive site with gorgeous views around.
Walking there is sometimes not easy and steep - be careful but do not give up. The entire town tiny but stunning

Sim. O castelo é aberto. Também vi cães na praia pluvial. Me pareceram muito bem vindos

Would like to find places near Sao bras as we are visiting in late August and have been many times to the Algarve coast but would like to go in other direction
Written 24 July 2019
Dear Patricia, near Sao bras are 2 nature reserves, Rocha de Pena near Salir and Fonte Benemola near Querenca. Also it is very nice to drive the N2 from Sao bras to Almodovar, a nice winding road in the serra.
