About
Explore Ireland’s industrial heritage in the Irish Linen Centre & Lisburn Museum’s award-winning exhibition ‘Flax to Fabric: the Story of Irish Linen’. Trace the history of linen production in Ulster, from the earliest times to the present, and see live spinning and weaving demonstrations. Visitors can also learn about the early development of Lisburn in the Museum’s ‘Making of a Town: 17th Century Lisburn’ exhibition. The Museum offers free tours of historic Lisburn and Castle Gardens, as well as a range of free educational workshops for groups, including WWII, Ancient Egypt and Science Week. Contact reception for bookings. Please note: the Assembly Rooms and Old Market House galleries are currently closed while the building undergoes extensive renovation. They will re-open for your enjoyment in early 2014.

Worth a trip out to visit and would recommend.
With free entry, we visited in Apr23 and enjoyed a few hours looking around the museum, reading about the history of Irish linen and viewing antique hand weaving devices. During our visit, events also included a display and information on veteran life (Untold stories by the people behind the uniform) and Planting a Parliament, which were both interesting to read and educational.. Staff were polite and friendly and happy to educate you on any history on display that you wanted to lean more about. Worth a trip out to visit and would recommend.

Just a superbly presented museum dedicated to the history of the Irish linen industry.
This unpretentious museum in Lisburn is dedicated to the history of the linen industry in Ireland. It is exiting, involving and superbly presented, and Angus guided us though the ages and the ups and downs of the industry over the centuries. Done miss this gem.

Fantastic museum with a gorgeous gift shop attached. Particular shout out to Nick for his wonderful demonstration of the sewing wheel, as well as his informative and thought-provoking comments on the 17th century wool trade in Ireland. Worth a visit!

Very interesting visit to both museums. Unfortunately stock taking was being carried out on Monday so couldn't purchase anything in the shop, which was a shame as I really wanted to purchase some of the beautiful things.

Really enjoyed visiting this small museum -the coverage of the linen industry was great and really gave a sense of the processes involved. The cards for the automated were fascinating. The 100 of Northern Ireland exhibition was also interesting especially coming from a mostly Southern, Nationalist tradition. The Jubilee exhibition for the late Queen was even more alien to me but the clear devotion of the attendant was both moving and educational. Would love to share some photos but alas special permission was required to take any photos.

Thanks so much for our amazing visit to the linen museum and history tour of Lisburn today. Our guide Ian was so knowledgeable together with the ladies on spinning and the looms. It’s amazing to think that our city was a world leader in the linen industry with Tsars, Kings and Queens buying from us. I would recommend anyone visiting Lisburn not to miss this experience. Thanks again from all the Atlas ladies
