Arrived by cruise ship with the Port some distance from the town. Our guide Olenka was their to meet us at the bottom of the gangway. Drive into town to join our speedboat. Thankfully the only one with a cover to keep off the sun. A stop was made to take pictures of the mysterious ‘El Candelabra’. Then cruised around the Ballestas Islands with plenty of time to take photos. Thousands of birds & sealions not too mention a few Humbolt Penguins. Olenka gave a good commentary the whole time. A magical experience. A short time to look around in Paracas before we boarded the coach (11 people in a 26 seater) & spent a couple of hours touring the National Reserve. Again Olenka was very good with her commentary. Recommended trip & good value compared with ship tours.

I can’t recommend Joel enough. We traveled as two couples; our friends had hired Joel a decade ago so contacted him again with our trip ideas. He arranged a driver from Lima to a winery hotel near Ica, where we stayed three nights. The first full day, his driver picked us up, took us to the little airport, went in with us, helped us understand what was going on as we waited for our Nazca lines flight, stopped at a market so we could buy water, and took us back to the hotel. Second day a driver took us to Huacachina, where we walked around a little and had a drink. Then the driver proceeded with Joel’s arrangement so I could take a dune buggy ride: because I have limited mobility and could never climb the dune up to the waiting buggies, a very dear man, Big Willie, drove us in his car the long way around the oasis to the home of our private driver/buggy. We had the best 2 hour excursion! Two of us had the “gentler” ride, and I loved it! Afterwards, Big Willie drove us back to our waiting car and driver in town. A driver took us to our Paracas hotel and helped us in. The next day, we had an English guide with us for a tour of the reserve. She was very knowledgeable and professional! When it was time to return to Lima, a driver took us to our airport hotel. We paid Joel a set fee (USD and P Soles) when we met with him upon arrival at our winery hotel, and I think it was very reasonable. Working with him made all our plans stress-free for me: the drivers always showed up on time, they’d make a quick stop for us, they knew what was going on, and I loved not having to figure things out for a week!!! Before the trip and during, Joel was accessible via WhatsApp, listened to what we hoped to see/do, and then guided our timeline (I like when the local will say, “no, you’ll want to go to the reserve in the afternoon when the colors are prettier...”) We chose our hotel and paid separately for them, and for our meals, but the rest was taken care of! Couple things: USD are widely accepted in Peru, but they have to be in perfect condition. Bring your passport when you fly over the Nazca lines: you leave from an airport that operates like any other. Traffic across Lima is very unpredictable, so allow yourself enough time.

We had a great time on this trip! We had a blast cruising around the reserve on our buggy. They allow about 10-15 minutes to check out each viewpoint, which were all absolutely beautiful. Definitely bring long sleeves, light pants, and sunglasses to protect from the sun/wind/sand. Our buggy's engine failed but our guide let us drive his instead, and he came with a rope so the trip was saved(we pulled him along the rest of the way, with not much sacrifice in speed), and it all made it a bit more fun and adventurous! Highly recommend this tour!

Four of us took the group tour to Ballestas Island. The tour was seamless from beginning to end.. We were met at the pier and sat in a comfortable van for the 25 minute ride to the boat. After a short restroom break we boarded. Remember to bring $5 USDpp for your park entrance fee which is collected on the dock. The boat was comfortable and our captain made sure everyone on board had picture perfect views of penguins, sea lions, numerous bird species and the unusual landscape of the islands. Our guide, Olika(sp?), provided excellent information about the area, was easy to understand and answered all our questions. The tour was well worth the time and money.
