Thomas Hart Benton's life is present in both his home and his paintings,...

Thomas Hart Benton's life is present in both his home and his paintings, and both are preserved at Thomas Hart Benton Home and Studio State Historic Site. A trip to the home and studio of the renowned painter, sculptor, lecturer and writer offers a glimpse into how the talented Benton lived and worked. Benton converted half of the carriage house into his art studio, which remains as he left it. Visitors can still see coffee cans full of paintbrushes, numerous paints, and a stretched canvas waiting to be transformed into another of his masterpieces. Thomas Hart Benton died in his studio in 1975.

One big advantage of artist home museums is that you get to focus totally on one artist and Thomas Hart Benton's home is certainly one of those. The guide was great and had many insightful comments into his work and times. Worthwhile visit.

Very interesting personal tour. Staff was great. The tour started in the studio and progressed to the home. The staff was very knowledgeable and gladly answered questions. Visiting would be difficult for those with limited mobility.

All of the original furniture and studio materials still in place. It is like the artist just stepped out for a few minutes but you can still feel his artistic spirit and the love. It helps you to appreciate Thomas Hart Benton's art even more once you stood in the studio where he created them. The tour guide was passionate... More

We had a wonderful well informed guide. We were back in Kansas City for a visit and not having gone to the Benton Museum/House before seized the opportunity.. This tour gives great incite into the artist and the period of time that he lived in Kansas City. Very few areas were of limits. The home is located in a beautiful... More

The Studio is just as it was at the time of his death. The guide stated the house and contents are 75% original from the time Mrs Benton passed away. There is an original painting returned to the family after Thomas Hart's death. the art work was unknown to Thomas' family and is not listed in any of the artists... More

Had the pleasure of touring the Thomas Hart Benton Home in May of this year. The guides are very knowledgeable on Mr. Benton's life, loves, and world recognized art works. I especially liked seeing the stained glass windows in his home done by his young daughter and frozen in time because she never finished them. I found myself getting lost... More

I was expecting to see a goodly number of the master's works of art. Rather, it is insight into where he lived. Great, if you're really into the life and times of Thomas Hart benton, and where he resided in a Kansas City house from a historical and even somewhat of a classical Kansas City house's architectural perspective with its... I was blown away by how much I learned and the intimacy of the tour. Our guide was very knowledgable. Being in the home of an artist added more to the experience than I would have ever expected. The tour sweeps you away into the life of the artist. I highly recommend this opportunity!

My wife and I truly enjoyed our visit to this historic place. The tour guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about this great artist. We were able to see Mr. Benton's studio, and learned about the many steps he took to create his inspiring murals. We also learned about his interesting life and about his family as we toured his home.... More
