Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Whilst this is an interesting excursion, you need your own car or to join a tour to get here, which probably keeps the numbers down (I had it to myself, when I visited).
Parking is not clearly signed at all, and it really ought to be.
This is quite expensive (70 kuna) for what you get, in my opinion, although the 3 and 7 day Dubrovnik passes currently (check if this is still the case) give you 20 kuna off the price. I understand that the restoration of this fortress came at a cost, but I did feel that it really isn't worth this fee, unless you have a particular interest.
The displays inside are informative and bilingual, and the setting is quite dramatic. It's not a bad place for bird watching (blue rock thrush, rock nuthatch quite easily seen). Glad I went, but overall, I don't think I'd rush back.

Sokol Grad is a Middle-Ages Fortress located near Dubrovnik, in Dalmatian Cost. It was built probably in the 13th Century and it was used until the 19th Century by Ottoman Empire. It is a small fortress-city, which is wonderful. You can walk around the stone building and go up to the highest point to see fantastic views of the fortress and the surroundings. Also, from the entrance, you see excellent views of the fortress and here there is a tiny church. Really, it was our first visit in Dalmatia and it was wonderful.

We visited the fortress on our way from Dubrovnik to Montenegro. It added perhaps 1.5 hours to the trip. Sokol Grad was built on a rock crag in the 1300’s and has been recently restored. There are some very interesting exhibits including a forge inside. The stairs are uneven and it can be cramped but it’s well worth the climb for the views of the valley and to the sea.

Great castle/fort in stunning location - amazing views. We went late in the day and the temperature was perfect and it wasn’t busy. It’s really high in parts! A good amount of historical info.
George was a gem at the bottom of the hill and I highly recommend you stop by and have a chat and buy some olive oil!

This is a great place to visit off the beaten track. It’s been sympathetically restored and is informative. Well worth a visit.
The 10€ fee was well worth it (8€ with a Dubrovnik pass). There were information boards in Croatian and English.
It was really quiet when we were there which is a shame as it’s a great place to visit.

This restored fort is worth a visit. Entrance is cheap (adults 70 Khuna. Kids 30 Khuna) and the information in the different rooms a good and interesting.
We used 1 hour to go around and read about the history and daily life in the fort and enjoying the stunning view.

We highly recommend the cafe at entrance road run by George and Devika. Fantastic Indian food cooked by Devika who is South African, we had a delicious hot chicken curry washed down with George's icy cold plum liqueur. We eat on the balcony of their house with a fabulous view of Konavle. They also sell delicious local peaches and figs. George and Devika are friendly and interesting characters! Definitely worth a stop for fabulous Indian food where you would least expect it!!

Sokol Grad is an interesting old castle. There are many steps to climb up there. The price of tickets may not be cheap for everyone. I was interested in the couple down the road. They sell homemade olive oil, delicious homegrown dried figs, and curries to tourists. Order your curry the day before and you will receive it made from scratch. It is always best to buy from the locals and from the villagers.

We visited this location during a very hot spell. However it is a very interesting restored fortified tower close to the Croatia/Bosnia boarder. Interesting artefacts on show. A great location in the Kinavle valley. Beware there are some steep steps. The views are spectacular

Our second year in a row staying in this most beautiful part of the world.
The Castle is an excellent visit, very informative with an amazing history so well worth the visit.
Be aware it gets ridiculously hot so plan your visit for morning or evening (shuts at 7pm)
The best part of the trip however is George & Devika.
George will be on the side of the road and will wave. Do stop, he’s an amazing man with great knowledge and humour and his olive oil, figs etc are the best.
Ask for a curry if you are staying nearby as Devika makes the best and I mean the best having travelled widely.
Glad to have these wonderful people as our friends.
