To get a taste of European architecture, visit the Wyeth-Tootle Mansion of the St. Joseph Museums, Inc. Not only does the Mansion celebrate Gothic architecture and Victorian-era interior design, it also houses exhibits that explore the natural disasters that have shaped the history of the region. The mansions commanding height, its impressive tower and remarkable view of the Missouri River region and bluffs were inspired by the original owners’ trips to castles along the Rhine River in Germany. William and Eliza Wyeth commissioned architect E.J. Eckel to help them realize their grand vision. In fact, Eckel’s architectural vision and talent left a lasting mark on the St. Joseph community, as his firm designed 75% of St. Joseph’s outstanding historical buildings. Mansion exhibits include: The Architecture of E.J. Eckel, Intersection of Time & Buildings, Confluence: the Flood of 1993, and Fame & Politics: The Life of Ruth Warrick. The manicured garden is also open to the public.

A nice treat, sort of a mini Downton Abbey kind of home. If you're oh the area, I think its at least worth a look from the outside, even if you don't have time to do the inside.

Very cool mansion. I did not get to go inside but just seeing the outside is a great opportunity to take in some of the architecture of St. Joseph. It's open on Fridays and Saturdays.

This mansion has interesting bones. Most of its original first floor furnishings are gone. The first floor was rather empty during our visit; the second floor was filled with exhibits on local wildlife. I appreciate the work being done to restore this mansion, but I...More

Unfortunately, this place was closed on Mondays when we were there. We stopped outside though & it is a beautiful mansion. I'm sure the inside would have been just as beautiful.

Mansion was not open....being renovated.....will return to St. Jo and take the tour. Looked up history on the mansion and was very interested in the family(s) that made the house their home.

This is a wonderful building with a lot of history around it. It seems to be a work in progress and I hope it gets better. The main level is by far the best part of the mansion showcasing the wood work and elegant dinning...More

It's worth a visit for those who appreciate restoration of homes. The top floor is not decorated like the bottom two floors but the whole house is worth the visit.

Couldn't get in because it is being renovated. Can't wait until it is finished. Heard the main floor is good but they need to finish and open up the other floors. Great building to drive by and appreciate what it was in its day!

Great show of how rich people lived in the late 19th century.a lot of interesting things from that time..the house has incredible wood floors designs. And great history behind it. For the cost you must see if you like history
