When visiting Meramec, there isn't much else off of the grounds, so one might drive up to the Jesse James Museum. That's fine. Pay the money for admission, and look around. It gives an account of J. Frank Dalton who claimed to be Jesse James. Realize that no legitimate historian believes in Dalton's tale. However, with that said, look around "the roadside attraction"--understand that this is just a roadside attraction. Learn some fragments about the real Jesse James, while wondering what might motivate an aging and unhealthy man to say that he's Jesse James.--Then leave.--Don't grumble about the money or what you saw. Just don't take it too seriously!

The hours listed on the website AND the door of the shop both said they were open that SATURDAY from 9 to 5! The shop was closed, the building looked old and run down, it was just so not worth the effort to try to go. When you have hours that you list your business as being open, BE OPEN! Do not pay attention to the hours listed, call to see if they got off their butts to open or not.

This place is a total rip-off. Don't even bother. Small gift shop and no wax figures, they were actually store mannequins dressed up. We learned Jesse James lived to a ripe old age, big deal. My ten-year-old granddaughter said why is a criminal like him famous. A waste of money and very boring for the kids.

Small museum and gift shop. There's a short film which promotes the story that Jesse was not shot but lives to be 103. There are a few mannequins several guns and a little information. Jesse's outlaw career is glossed over to focus on him as a folk hero. Moderately interesting but not worth a major detour.
