Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was a wonderful stop! Well worth the time. The staff were very knowledgeable and excited to educate us on the history of Big Timber area The museum has a large glass encased model of the historic town. It had extraordinary detail There was a good number of antiques and western memorabilia donated by locals, including a complete furnished one room school house and cache with Scandinavian art There was a very nice gift shop and no charge for admission. We were even given a book on the history of the area.

Many exhibits, interesting history of the area. Especially liked the 100-year old schoolhouse. Extensive research library of history and surnames.

First Class Museum, exhibits include Art, history of Rodeo, Norwegian Stabber, one room school house, diorama of Big Timber showing the town in 1907 before the rail road started a fire that burned most of the town, history of the sheep history in Sweet Grass County when during the 'hay days' when 50 bands of sheep went through town on their way up the Boulder River to summer range in the nearby Gallatin National Forest; and many other exhibits. Open in the Summer.

Worth the drive! There is so much history to learn about in this museum. Very well organized, and the docent was so friendly and knowledgeable. I high recommend this museum.

This was a lovely museum about Big Timber.

This is all about this town.

We could explore as we wanted.

We explored a Teepee, about Clark who came here.

They also named Plenty Coups.

There was a car inside the museum as well.

One of the ladies opened the doors, so that we could see the scholl, awooden house, and an old travel trailer.

We enjoyed this place.

This is worthwhile to see!

When I say lots of pieces they have real pieces: Rifles, pistols, washing machine, a bar (no liquor though), an old Ford, dentist chair, barber pole, saddles, chaps... you get the picture. Stop in and check it all out.

History comes alive at Crazy Mountain Museum. Major settlement of this area was only 100 or so years ago. Many families are direct descendants of those settlers. The museum has a good collection of life 100 years ago in Sweet Grass County.

Stopped here and I was the only visitor to the museum at the time. Nice museum for a small town. Its free and operates on donations. Lots of local history, rodeo, area activity like sheep ranching, and lot of photos and information on pioneers who established the area. A couple buildings outside but someone has to go with you to see those and I didn't take the time. Worth the stop if your in the area. I spent about 1 hour there.

This is a good little historical museum, with an interesting variety of exhibits. Highlights include a wonderful collection of Stetson chaps, a stagecoach, beautiful and intricate crochet, photos of the many local school houses from over the years, and lots of other artifacts. Unfortunately, we did not have time to enjoy it all as long as we would have liked. The museum is spacious, easily accommodating a wheelchair. They do maintain genealogical files there and the staff is friendly and helpful with accessing them. There is a nice gift shop, too! The museum has no entrance fee, but do leave a donation to help keep this gem open!
