this is one of the most scenic drives in SW Montana- soaring cliffs, beautiful river alongside road, forests and wildlife. Driver must pay attention to road as curves can be tough. Definitely worth the drive to Big Sky or West Yellowstone

I had read that the Gallatin Gateway is a wonderful scenic drive and that wasn't a lie. From I-90 just west of Bozeman, Montana the drive begins on Hwy 191 going south along the Gallatin River. It was October and a drizzly, overcast day but with the leaves turning colours the scenery was beautiful. With a sprinkling of snow on... More

We were just driving from Bozeman to Big Sky on our way to West Yellowstone NP. It was a very scenic drive with picturesque landscape whereever you glanced! :-)

Revisiting my youth. Place has changed a lot in 50 years. The good news is that the whole area is thriving, the bad is that prices are insane. Still, a beautiful place, great fishin and friendly folks.

We were on the canyon from Bozeman to Big Sky and from Big Sky to the West Yellowstone entrance of Yellowstone National Park, U.S. highway 191. The scenic drive winds along the Gallatin River which at this spot is fairly quite, go north of Bozeman for more excitement (Taylor Fork and Mad Mile class IV); however, this part of the... More

Have hiked all over this area with my kids and friends. All levels of hikes available. highly recommend the laval lake trail. Bear tooth publishing has a good topo map of the area "Bozeman Area" map for the Northern Gallatin Range, and it shows MTB accessibility, etc.

With so many things to do, it's hard to choose! Lots of hiking trails (don't forget your bear spray!), pull outs to stop and fish, rafting companies that offer guided river rafting tours and campgrounds to stay at that after a busy day, s'mores around a fire are a perfect ending. I would not recommend biking this route as there... More

Most of the highway follows the rippling Gallatin River almost to West Yellowstone. There're many scenic spots & trails as well as the opportunity to see the Big Sky ski resort. The highway can be quite treacherous during winter due to snow & ice, so proceed with caution then.

Remarkable country and endless skylines. Lots of construction work all along Interstate 90. Made the trip a little arduous in June. Also, rest areas could be nicer along the way.
