Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Mount Helena is a small mountain in Helena that has many trails to hike. From beginners to advance. We took the easier trail since I had a bad foot on our vacation and it was do able. The views of the city are beautiful from this mountain. We did not see any wildlife except for a few birds but it was a beautiful and peaceful hike.

I hiked up to Mount Helena on a Saturday morning in August. I hiked the 1906 Trail up, and the Prospector Shafts Trail down. The 1906 Trail is about 3 miles, with some steep and rocky places. There are some great views along the way. It gains about 1000 ft. It goes by some cool limestone cliff with a cave-like opening in the rock. The top of the trail is a little hard to locate, but keep climbing and you will get there. This trail is probably too difficult for younger children unless you are prepared to carry them.
The Prospector Shafts Trail had more mountain bike traffic. It's about 2 miles long It has a lot of loose gravel, so open toed shoes aren't a good idea. Hiking poles help considerably.

Mount Helena is one of the many parks in the city of Helena. It is a wonderful, scenic mountain and looms over the west side of the city. It has several well-maintained hiking trails. It is easily accessible. There is not a drop of water available, hence NO fishing. In fact, one should carry water with them as it is a moderately steep and rugged mountain and in the dry climate of this area, you can become dehydrated quickly.

Best way to see the Queen City of the Rockies ! It's an easy walk to the top and the view is magical. It takes 90 minutes and it's free!

I was in Helena the week of August 20, 2012, on business, and was a bit disappointed that I would not be able to extend my stay on this, my first, visit to Big Sky Country so as to check out Glacier or one of the many other marvelous outdoor experiences. So imagine my surprise when I found out that Mount Helena is part of a city park traversed by numerous rugged trails. Tuesday, I led a group of co-workers up the very steep Power Line Trail, viewing a gorgeous sunrise and three mule deer, including a 4 x 4 buck in velvet, on the trip up, and taking a kinder-and-gentler route down. I still made it to work by 8:30 A.M. Well, that was just the first of three successive five-mile roundtrip hikes to the summit from the Best Western Great Northern. On Wednesday, we took the kinder and gentler route up and down, saw an equally impressive sunrise, and saw six mule deer doe (but no buck). Thursday, we took the kinder, gentler route up and the Power Line Trail down. My work each of those three days went easier because my head was clear as a result of those hikes.

It's a workout but well worth it to get to the top of Mt. Helena. I'm out of shape and it takes me about 45 minutes to hike it each way. There are several trail options to get to the top, ranging in difficulty. Wear comfortable sturdy sneakers, bring a waterbottle, and definitely bring a camera! The trails are well defined and well maintained.

Helena is the only city in the US that has a mountain top for a city park. The activities abound. (I should know—I live on the border of the park and have a ringside seat.) People walk their dogs. Trail bikers whiz by. There are hikers galore on the many trails that lead to the top of the mountain or under the wonderful rock formation. My daughter hikes up and down whenever she comes to visit. I should add that there are are variety of trails for the easy to the challenging.

Lovely quaint town with a historic past. Make sure to stop by Steve's for breakfast! The Capital is a must. Beautiful architecture and detail inside.

This was a great, steep hike up to the summit. We loved every minute of it even though I had to keep stopping DH to let me catch my breath. Glorious view from the summit plus a sense of accomplishment. Lesson learned, power line trail down is only for young or very confident knees. Better to go back down 1906. My legs were shaking by the time we got to the bottom of power line.

The views are typical outstanding Montana views, especially once you get to the top where "Devil's Kitchen" cave is. But if you don't like to hike or have joint issues, etc. this hike is not for you!

Hi can I use my wheelchair
Or rent a scooter or motorized one day?
Written 11 July 2018
If you're asking me if you can use your wheelchair or a scooter or motorized chair to climb Mt. Helena, the answer is no. But, there are many streets that will take you up to the base of the mountain. You just need to look for them - I drive around randomly and find the next higher street. The view of the valley is stunning even from the base of the mountain.

The hiking trail on mount Helena is a gravel path, in one or two places a little rocky and steep so whilst I am not a wheelchair user I would think it is not accessible to wheelchairs. The trailhead car park still affords quite a good view of Helena.
