A real Montana gold stream experience. Your guide loves to teach people how to pan, patient, thorough and willing to answer all your questions. Knows the history of the area and works at your pace. I would take a pair of boots, and take something to drink. I was there for about 4 hours. Take a snack, take a camera, and leave with a smile, a little sparkle and a golden memory......

I was looking for something different to do which our granddaughter and thought I had heard you could pan for gold somewhere in our fabulous state. I looked up Capitol City Prospectors in Helena and had talked with Tim. He seemed to have a real kind voice and explained how he runs his program. Now, at first you may think the cost might be a little steep but, the experience and time he puts in are well worth the money. We ran a little late, so he gave directions to his claim up in the mountains and we met them their. He has preserved a portion of the river in the Helena mountains so every one can experience this natural rock cleansing that man has been doing for years. He was very patient with our 3 some. You have to be ready to get wet and lift a tray of wet dirt, rock and swirl it till you see the glimmers of gold come through. It is hard work, but so worth it, you are out on the river having a blast and sure they may not be big pieces but it is an experience. At the end Tim gives you the equipment and allows you to come back. This is something we are going to continue to do with each of our granddaughters. Thanks for your time!

My wife and I went with her parents, who are in their 70s. Altbough learning to pan for gold isn't difficult, there is a technique to it. Tim is a knowledgeable and patient instructor who spent time with each of us to ensure we got the hang of it. He also explained where we were most likely to find gold, but it was totally up to us where to dig. The setting was beautiful and peaceful, and the day was so hot that sitting with our feet in the creek was a treat in itself. There are a couple of large rocks to sit on while panning, but we also brought along camping stools to ensure we all had a place to sit if we wanted one. Each of us found gold, but more importantly to us, we had fun and made wonderful memories. Thanks, Capital City Prospecting!

We were taken to a stream where we were given lessons on gold panning. Every one was given a gold pan and were showed how to use it. We dug gravel, panned it and got to keep all of the gold we found. Even the kids found gold.

A truly wonderful experience. You get all the tools and training to enable yourself to pan for gold. You get to actually do the work and you are the first person to see and keep the gold. A group of us spent the day panning and enjoying time doing something unique. The guide is very knowledgeable and helpful. A great experience for everyone. Definitely worth the time, money, the adventure and memories are priceless
